In the distance, zombies, drawn by the commotion, were slowly gathering.

If these people do not leave, death awaits them.

……

Chang Wei had no time to think about the fate of the survivors after he left. The group carefully made their way towards Jingyuan Garden according to the map in their minds.

"what is this?"

Before Chang Wei and his group stood a luxurious and imposing hotel, dozens of stories high, with a group of zombies wandering aimlessly at the entrance.

198 Hotel Live People

Chang Wei and the others immediately recognized that this was one of the famous five-star hotels in Jiangnan City. Only celebrities or tycoons could afford to eat and stay here!

The staff here all have at least a degree from a prestigious university. There used to be a saying that there's no service they can't provide, only services you can't imagine. Of course, this comes with astronomical prices; a single night's stay costs nearly 30,000 yuan, which is equivalent to an average worker's annual income!

Chang Wei and his friends had fantasized about spending their money here, but they were ridiculed for dreaming. Chang Wei wasn't angry at the time because he himself felt like he was dreaming.

But now, looking at the deathly silent hotel, Chang Wei couldn't help but sigh.

"I'm going to check the hotel. Are you coming with me, or would you like to wait for me somewhere else?" Chang Wei asked the group as he turned around.

"What are you going to do?"

Everyone else was too embarrassed to ask, but Takagi Saya was straightforward.

"I'll go with you!"

Saya Takagi got the answer she wanted and decided to follow Chang Wei.

Although Chang Wei's strength has greatly increased, it's always better to be safe than sorry, and having more people is always a good thing.

"Let's go too!"

The others unanimously agreed to follow Chang Wei.

They had witnessed firsthand how terrifying the zombies in the city were, and had faced numerous close calls along the way. If they were truly so formidable, they would have died countless times already.

Therefore, as soon as they heard that Chang Wei was going to the hotel, they immediately followed. No one wanted to leave Chang Wei, because they felt safe only by his side. This was a common thought among them.

"Fine, whatever you say!"

Seeing this, Chang Wei stopped trying to stop him.

He believed that with his current strength, he could ensure their safety even if they encountered danger.

He glanced at the person at the end of the line; the one who had been following them in the supermarket was named Chou Zuo.

He has a sleazy look on his face.

Upon joining, he proactively introduced himself, revealing that he was in the building materials business. Despite being middle-aged, he was adept at handling affairs and quickly became one of the group, offering his help and occasionally even fighting off lone ordinary zombies, which won him many hearts.

Chang Wei didn't care. If the man was honest, that would be best; if he was restless, he wouldn't mind sending him on his way.

A number of zombies had gathered and were wandering around the hotel entrance; a rough count suggested there were nearly ten. However, to Chang Wei and his group, this number was negligible. Before Chang Wei could even make a move, the others swarmed in and dispatched them!

"Get in!"

Chang Wei led the way, entering the hotel. This was his second time here. The first time he came, he was nervous because of his inferiority complex; this time, he was still nervous because he was afraid he wouldn't find the person he was looking for!

The hotel's interior is luxuriously decorated, with a huge fish tank in the center of the lobby. It used to house various ornamental fish, and the hotel invested a lot of money in it and even hired people to take care of it. Now, however, no one cares about it, all the fish are dead, and it emits a foul stench.

The lobby floor was covered in blood, and corpses were scattered everywhere, torn and mutilated. There were waiters, men in suits, and women of all ages among them. Chang Wei carefully examined each person, fearing that someone might appear.

The others followed Chang Wei closely, cautiously surveying their surroundings, especially the corpses on the ground. They were very wary, as there were countless scenes on TV of people being bitten by zombies due to carelessness, and they didn't want to experience it firsthand, even though the corpses didn't seem to be moving.

"Shh!"

The corpse on the ground, whose eyes had been closed, suddenly opened them and lunged at Wang Hu, who was closest to it, which startled him greatly.

"Whoosh!"

A fireball the size of a fist appeared out of nowhere, struck the zombie's head directly, burned a large hole in it, and killed it instantly.

"Phew, thank you, Chang Wei!" Wang Hu said to Chang Wei with a grateful expression. If Chang Wei hadn't intervened in time, he probably would have been bitten. If he had been bitten, he would have been finished, so he was incredibly grateful to Chang Wei.

"It's alright, just be careful!"

Chang Wei waved his hand, gave a word of advice, and continued on his way.

Aside from the corpses, there were no other zombies in the hall, but he dared not relax. This was a densely populated area, and the number of zombies should not be so small.

The hotel's first floor houses the restaurant, while the upper floors contain the office area and guest rooms. The staff live in a nearby dormitory, which is in very poor condition, consisting of only a simple bed, a worn-out wardrobe, and a small table, without even a fan.

Chang Wei was unaware of the person's situation after he left, and didn't know if she was still alive. He just wanted peace of mind and to know if she was doing well.

He walked along the corridor he remembered, looking at the empty private rooms.

Suddenly, Chang Wei felt an urgent desire to find a living person and to learn what was happening here.

Perhaps it was a blessing from heaven, but as he passed through the kitchen, he vaguely heard what sounded like voices coming from inside.

"Are there still people alive?"

A hint of joy appeared on Chang Wei's face, and he unconsciously knocked on the tightly closed iron gate a few times.

The "thump-thump" sound echoed in the empty first floor, instantly attracting many 0.6 zombies to gather around because of the sound.

"People inside, please open the door!"

Behind the door, a group of well-dressed men and women were enjoying snacks. A man with a gloomy expression picked up a piece of mung bean cake, took a bite, frowned, shook his head, and casually threw it into the trash can.

199 Hikaru Yagami and Toka Takanashi

In the corner, Hikaru Yagami, dressed in a waiter's uniform, swallowed hard. He watched others feast while he and the other low-level employees could only sit and wait for their fate. Although he was saddened, he dared not resist.

For a long time, they have been accustomed to being ruled, and the awe-inspiring authority of these people has long been deeply ingrained in their hearts.

In the past, they were the hotel's top executives, including managers, directors, and senior managers—each of whom was someone she could never reach.

Although they are now down on their luck, as the director casually discarded his unfinished snack, he said, as long as the government reacts, it will definitely come to their rescue and eliminate these monsters. They will still be the elite of society, superior to others, while everyone else will forever be under their control.

After thinking for a moment, she figured no one would want the discarded snacks, so she struggled to pick them up from the trash can. She hadn't eaten for days and couldn't bear the hunger.

"Hey, want some? Did you ask me?"

Seeing Yagami Hikari crawling towards the trash can, the man's eyes gleamed with ill intent. He took a few steps in front of her, slapped away her hand that was reaching for her mouth from the trash can, and stomped on the half-eaten mung bean cake, scattering green paste-like crumbs all over the ground.

Hikaru Yagami was initially angry as he watched the food he had finally managed to get being crushed by a pair of black leather shoes, but when he looked up, he saw the hotel's general manager, Toshio Tachibana.

As her boss's boss, she knew him quite well. She had heard that he was a very lecherous man who had defiled no fewer than a hundred women. Even at the hotel where she worked, she didn't know how many beautiful female employees had been threatened by him.

She was just an ordinary grassroots service worker. Facing him, who held a high position of power, she dared not vent her anger and could only cower and look at him.

"General Manager, I... I saw you were going to throw it away if you didn't eat it, so... so I didn't want to waste it..." Her voice trailed off at the end, becoming almost inaudible.

"You're saying I'm wasting food? Huh?" The man's face showed a mocking expression as he stared at Yagami Hikaru, his tone becoming even more aggressive.

"No, no, I, I didn't mean that."

Hikari Yagami explained with a look of terror, afraid that the other party would misunderstand, "I'm just too hungry. I haven't eaten for three days. I want to eat something, sob sob." As she spoke, tears rolled down her cheeks.

Bystanders noticed the scene and many people pointed and whispered among themselves, as if watching a spectacle.

Some people couldn't stand it and were indignant, but because of the general manager's prominent position, no one dared to speak out.

No one would want to offend a senior executive for the sake of a lowly waiter.

Takanashi Touka was one of those who couldn't stand it anymore. Beneath her light makeup lay a cold gaze, like a proud white swan. Dressed in a school uniform, she appeared very capable, and her full chest outlined a charming curve.

This beautiful young woman, only twenty years old, rose from a waitress to head chef in less than three years. Only she knows the effort she put in behind the scenes.

She originally thought that she could change everything through hard work and let the higher-ups see her efforts and dedication, but the arrival of the apocalypse ruthlessly revealed all the truth.

When the apocalypse came, many people turned into zombies, and this hotel was no exception. In an instant, it became a living hell, and none of them were able to escape.

However, she was lucky enough to find the kitchen, hide inside, and escape unharmed. Afterwards, she saved many other people, including executives who escaped from upstairs.

However, this act made her realize that she was nothing more than a clown, that the place she stood on was occupied by them, that all the food was monopolized by them, and that she could only get a little bit each day to barely survive.

The other waitresses she rescued were treated like dirt, given no food, and threatened with the lie that the government would come to their rescue, saying they would definitely be freed, regain power, and look down on all living beings.

Takanashi Touka could only scoff at this. She might not fully understand the horror of the apocalypse, but the gunshots from the police a few days ago had given her hope. However, just over ten minutes later, she heard a shrill scream, and then everything returned to calm, and nothing happened.

Even through the gaps in the kitchen exhaust fan, the streets were filled with zombies, with no humans in sight. Occasionally, terrifying monsters would appear, some as fast as ghosts, others as powerful as giant beasts.

They witnessed a small team of dozens of people trying to escape, only to be overtaken by a monster of incredible speed, resulting in the complete annihilation of the entire team, with no survivors.

Therefore, Takanashi Touka knew all along that expecting government assistance was just wishful thinking, and that the very existence of the government was questionable. These executives should have known this too, but they were unwilling and dared not believe it. They used the lie that the government would come to the rescue to deceive those who were ignorant, which chilled Takanashi Touka to the bone.

"Maybe I should have run away myself!"

Takanashi Touka muttered to herself, looking at the pairs of indifferent eyes around her, and a wave of sadness washed over her.
