Chapter 147, First Time: I Want to Drink Some Wine
As dusk fell, the two went out.
The hospital was brightly lit, and the smell of disinfectant was still strong in the corridors.
Reaching the door of the ward, Su Wanwan gently pushed it open.
Lin Weiwei was lying face down, and Bai Si'an was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding a book and reading something to her in a low voice. Hearing the noise, they both turned their heads.
"Wanwan!" Lin Weiwei's eyes lit up, and she actually tried to get up from the bed. "You're finally here! I heard you fainted yesterday, I was so scared! How are you now? Are you still feeling unwell?"
She moved too quickly, aggravating the injury on her back, and hissed in pain.
Bai Si'an quickly put down his book and pressed her down: "Don't move."
Su Wanwan quickly walked over and helped her slowly lie back down: "I'm fine, just a little tired. I'll be fine after a nap. Look at you, you're still injured and you're already doing this."
Lin Weiwei lay down properly, her eyes scanning her up and down: "Are you really alright? Your face is still pale."
"It's really nothing." Su Wanwan placed the lunchbox on the bedside table. "I brought you food, eat it while it's hot."
Bai Si'an took the lunchbox, opened it, and a delicious aroma of food wafted out.
Lin Weiwei sniffed: "It smells so good! I'm so tired of the food in the hospital cafeteria, it's cabbage and potatoes every day."
Bai Si'an ladled out a bowl of porridge, stirred it with a spoon, tested the temperature, and then sat down sideways, preparing to feed her.
Lin Weiwei waved her hand, "Wait a minute, let me talk to Wanwan first."
As she spoke, she reached out and grabbed Su Wanwan's hand, pulling her closer to the bedside. She lowered her voice and said, "Are you really alright? When Commander Bai carried you back yesterday, your face looked terrifying."
Su Wanwan's face flushed: "I was just tired and had a low-grade fever. I'm better now."
"That's good." Lin Weiwei breathed a sigh of relief, then blinked. "But... did Commander Bai carry you back? How did he carry you? In a princess carry?"
"Lin Weiwei." Bai Si'an coughed beside him.
Lin Weiwei ignored him, her eyes still fixed on Su Wanwan: "Tell me."
Su Wanwan felt embarrassed by her question and gently pushed her, saying, "Stop fooling around."
"Okay, okay, I won't tease you anymore." Lin Wei smiled and leaned closer, lowering her voice even further, "So... how are things between you and Commander Bai now? I saw the look in his eyes when he saw you off at the door just now, tsk tsk."
Su Wanwan's face turned even redder.
She glanced at Bai Si'an. Bai Si'an was stirring the porridge with his head down, seemingly not having heard, but the tips of his ears were a little red.
She glanced at the doorway again. Bai Rongbei was standing in the corridor outside the door, his back to the ward, talking to a passing doctor.
She hesitated for a moment, then leaned close to Lin Weiwei's ear and said in a voice only the two of them could hear, "He...he said he wants me to move in with him tonight and share a room with him."
Lin Weiwei's eyes widened in surprise.
She looked at Su Wanwan, then at Bai Rongbei outside the door, and her smile widened.
"Really?" She lowered her voice, unable to hide her excitement. "Great! Wanwan! We're finally going to get married!"
Su Wanwan's face flushed from her words: "Keep your voice down..."
"I understand, I understand." Lin Weiwei winked and leaned closer. "Then... are you nervous?"
Su Wanwan nodded honestly: "A little."
"That's normal!" Lin Weiwei said with the air of someone who'd been there before. "I was incredibly nervous the first time too. But let me tell you, Commander Bai may seem cold, but he's actually quite caring. Look how attentive he is to you."
She paused, then lowered her voice further: "If you're still nervous, I'll teach you a trick."
"What method?"
"Have a little drink," Lin Weiwei said. "Just a small glass, nothing much. After a few drinks, you'll be bolder, more relaxed, and less nervous. And... hehe, alcohol can lead to promiscuity, it's only natural."
Su Wanwan's ears turned red: "What kind of twisted logic is that..."
"How is that twisted logic? This is based on experience!" Lin Weiwei said confidently. "The first time I met Bai Si'an... well, the first time was an accident, but later one time, I had a few drinks and I was particularly uninhibited. Really, you should try it."
Su Wanwan bit her lip and didn't say anything.
Seeing her expression, Lin Weiwei knew she had taken her words to heart, and added, "But don't drink too much, getting drunk isn't good. Just a small glass, just enough to make you slightly tipsy."
"Hmm..." Su Wanwan responded softly.
Bai Si'an, unable to bear it any longer, coughed again: "The porridge is getting cold."
Lin Weiwei then turned around and glared at him: "Okay, okay!"
She opened her mouth, waiting for Bai Si'an to feed her porridge.
Bai Si'an scooped up a spoonful and brought it to her lips, his own ears turning even redder.
Just then, there was a knock on the ward door.
Director Chen walked in with a smile, carrying a cloth bag in his hand: "Comrade Lin Weiwei, how are you feeling?"
Lin Weiwei quickly said, "Director Chen, I feel much better."
Director Chen walked to the bedside, placed the cloth bag on the bedside table, and opened it. Inside were several sanitary napkins that were neatly folded and looked thicker and more organized than before.
"This is the final version, which was improved upon by several doctors and nurses in our hospital based on your previous ideas."
Director Chen picked one up and handed it to Lin Weiwei to look at. "The outer layer uses softer and more breathable cotton gauze, the inner layer of cotton is more thoroughly disinfected, and some herbal powder to relieve discomfort has been added. The elastic band has also been changed to a more comfortable one. We tried it and it felt good."
She then looked at Su Wanwan: "Comrade Su Wanwan, you also deserve credit for this. The idea that you two initially proposed did indeed solve a major problem."
Lin Weiwei held the sanitary napkin, examining it from all angles, her face beaming with undisguised joy: "Director Chen, this is so much better than what we were trying to come up with before!"
Su Wanwan also went over to take a look, feeling a warm glow in her heart.
They initially only wanted to reduce the suffering of their female compatriots, but they never expected it to actually turn out like this.
"The organization has discussed it," Director Chen continued, "and decided to first produce it in small batches for trial use within our troops. If it works well, we'll gradually roll it out. When that happens, you two will be credited for inventing this first sanitary napkin."
Lin Weiwei and Su Wanwan exchanged a glance, both seeing a light in each other's eyes.
This is a big deal.
A truly good thing.
Director Chen gave a few more instructions on how to take good care of his injury before leaving.
As soon as she left, Lin Weiwei grabbed Su Wanwan's hand, her eyes shining with excitement: "Wanwan! Did you hear that? What we did, we did!"
Su Wanwan nodded vigorously, her nose feeling a little sore.
Having transmigrated here for so long, this seems to be the first time I've truly felt like I've done something, left something behind.
After talking for a while, Bai Rongbei and Bai Si'an returned.
Seeing that it was getting late, Bai Rongbei took his leave with Su Wanwan.
When I left the hospital, it was already completely dark.
There were many stars, and a cool breeze was blowing.
The two walked back in silence.
As they approached his doorstep, Bai Rongbei suddenly spoke up: "Director Chen came to talk about sanitary napkins?"
"Yes," Su Wanwan said, "the final version has been finalized and will be tested and promoted in the military."
"That's good," Bai Rongbei said.
When I got home, I pushed open the courtyard gate; the house was dark.
