Chapter 1 The Sleepy Man
Chapter 1 The Sleepy Man
"Lin Yuan, let's part ways amicably."
In the spacious and bright office, a smartly dressed middle-aged man pushed a pre-prepared dismissal letter from his desk and placed it right in front of Lin Yuan.
"Everyone is aware of your situation. You have severe narcolepsy, which has seriously affected your daily work performance. Sometimes you even fall asleep while walking and dream about hitting people. You are no longer suitable to stay at the company. I wish you can find a better place. When a company conducts a background check, I will put in a good word for you."
Lin Yuan silently accepted the resignation letter, but instead of opening it, he looked around.
This is the company where he has worked for nearly ten years since graduating from university. He has accompanied the company as it has grown and expanded. Along the way, many people have fallen behind, but he never expected that it would be his turn now.
But he didn't have much to complain about.
He has narcolepsy, and it's severe. If he were the company boss, he wouldn't let such a patient stay in his company.
Recalling the past few years, Lin Yuan took a deep breath. Just as he was about to speak, he suddenly became dazed, and then the surrounding environment began to change strangely.
The mahogany desk is aging and fading rapidly, as if it has been through decades.
Moreover, the ceiling, floor, and walls—everything in this office—are aging rapidly. Time at this moment is not just fast-forwarding, but rather like a higher-dimensional being watching a movie and encountering a boring plot, dragging the progress bar backward.
The once bright and clean office has become old, dilapidated, and... cold in the blink of an eye!
The window, which had been brightly lit just moments before, was now completely dark, and a thick darkness enveloped everything around it. The chill in the air, like a venomous snake, frantically burrowed into every pore of Lin Yuan's body.
The cold, damp sensation made Lin Yuan's mind incredibly clear.
"here we go again!"
His fairly good-looking face twisted slightly. Hearing the whooshing sound coming from in front of him, Lin Yuan skillfully bent down, then grabbed the stool he was sitting on and smashed it towards the spot where the whooshing sound landed.
boom!
It was the sound of something being hit. Lin Yuan didn't stop; he just kept smashing the stool down on it until the thing stopped moving. Only then did he stop, panting heavily.
Lin Yuan tugged at his collar, which was tight from working, and took out his phone from his pocket. He turned on the screen light and finally saw everything around him.
"As expected, I'm back again."
Lin Yuan's expression was cold and stern. He seemed completely unsurprised by the strange situation around him, simply because he had experienced similar situations many times before.
He was diagnosed with so-called narcolepsy, but each time it flared up, he didn't actually fall asleep; instead, he ended up in this strange place.
And each time you escape this place, there's only one way:
A flicker of pain crossed Lin Yuan's eyes. He forced himself not to think about the conditions for leaving this strange place and looked down at the things he had smashed on the ground.
It was a corpse.
The body, which should have been dead for a long time, was dressed in a tattered suit. The exposed skin was pale and bloodless, with large patches of lividity.
The corpse clearly resembled the boss who had just handed him his resignation letter.
Turning his gaze away, Lin Yuan picked up the chair, which had been smashed and was somewhat deformed, and pushed open the door.
The company Lin Yuan works for is quite large, with more than a hundred employees and more than a hundred workstations on just this one floor.
However, there was no longer any sign of bustling work here; all that remained was a deathly silence and a scene of decay just like the previous office.
The normal lights had been completely turned off, with only a few green emergency lights barely illuminating a small area, making the entire space feel gloomy and eerie.
Standing at the door, Lin Yuan did not go out immediately, but instead used the dim light to look around at everything, especially the rows of bright windows.
After waiting for a while and hearing no unusual noises, he picked up the chair and walked out, trying to leave along the aisle.
Along the way, the computers at the workstations, the makeup mirrors left by the staff, and everything that could reflect a person's image had all rotted away.
Lin Yuan was not surprised at all.
Because of his narcolepsy, he has entered this scene more than ten times and is very familiar with everything here.
"what!"
A sharp, terrified cry rang out from outside, accompanied by a series of hurried, heavy footsteps.
Lin Yuan quietly walked over, leaned against the door of the office area and looked out, his pupils suddenly contracted.
In this eerie green corridor, which was also only illuminated by emergency lights, a man wearing a white shirt and black trousers stood in the middle of the corridor.
His limbs were very uncoordinated, and his hands and feet were making very strange movements.
Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the man's movements are those of a traditional opera, but he is not wearing a theatrical costume, and his body is too stiff, which is why it looks so strange.
What's even stranger is...
Strange patterns of makeup have appeared on the man's face, his exposed palms, and the backs of his hands. As time goes by, the bones in the man's body make dull thuds, clearly indicating that they have been broken.
Blood began to seep from his entire body, and in the blink of an eye, he had become a blood-soaked figure.
But his movements did not stop. On the contrary, because of the broken bones, his movements became more and more flexible and had more and more theatrical flavor.
Click!
With a muffled thud, the man's head suddenly turned 180 degrees backward, facing the direction Lin Yuan was in.
A glimmer of light flashed in the man's lifeless eyes, "Help..."
Before the next word could be uttered, a pale hand suddenly reached out from the wall next to the man, grabbed his face, and pulled him into the wall with force.
"here we go again!"
Lin Yuan didn't have time to blame the man and immediately turned and left.
Leaving here now is practically impossible. Since that's the case, he might as well go back to what seems to be the safest place. However, before he could take two steps, he suddenly heard a heavy thud behind him.
He instinctively turned around and his pupils immediately contracted.
Where the man had disappeared, a person stumbled out of the wall and crashed into the opposite wall. This person was wearing a tattered theatrical costume and had heavy makeup on his face, clearly a character from the stage.
"Help...me~"
