Chapter 423 Heading to the Seaside
"May Heaven grant us another five hundred years!"
The demon spirit hummed a song as it lay on an oxcart, with the Spirit Blossom Grass, which housed Ye Nanxiao's soul, resting on its belly.
"Young man, your singing is pretty good! Have you practiced it before?" The old man driving the oxcart turned around and asked with a smile.
"I'd heard others sing it before, and I memorized a few lines of the lyrics as I listened." The spirit crossed her legs, a blade of grass dangling from her mouth.
"That sounds great!" The old man flicked the reins, and the oxcart, which had slowed down, picked up speed again.
Feeling the bumps of the country road, the demon spirit sank into the soft hay, reached out and touched the diary in her arms, and asked Ye Nanxiao, "Strategist, the message the master sent last night, it seems to mean that we should go back quickly."
Ye Nanxiao lazily waved a blade of grass and said, "No rush, no rush. I was promised a six-month vacation, and only two-thirds of it has passed. As a responsible worker, I can't let the boss swallow the rest of my vacation!"
"Besides, you agreed, so at worst we'll both be punished!" Ye Nanxiao said, acting like he had nothing to lose.
"Strategist, that's true, but you were the one trembling badly last night!" The demon spirit showed no mercy, completely exposing Ye Nanxiao's embarrassment.
When Ye Nanxiao received Gu Yuena's urgent message, he was surprised, as he could actually detect a hint of humanity in it.
It's like this: you've been away for too long, and your partner hasn't seen you for hours, so they can't help but call to ask when you're coming home. If you're late, you'll be in big trouble!
However, Gu Yuena's emotions did not last long; after only a few minutes, she returned to her usual aloof demeanor.
This made Ye Nanxiao, who was being summoned, wonder if there was something wrong with his hearing.
But Gu Yuena's last words were, "Come back when your time is up; I haven't heard you finish your story yet."
This confirmed to Ye Nanxiao that he was not hallucinating and that Gu Yuena was indeed hoping for his return.
Ye Nanxiao, a top-tier worker, the strategist of the Starry Sky, and the most stubborn man in history, hesitated for a second before taking out his original holiday plan map, comparing it with his travel schedule, and at dawn, he pulled Yao Ling along and boarded an old man's oxcart heading out of town.
"Nobody can stop my vacation!"
Ye Nanxiao is all courage.
Hearing Ye Nanxiao's bold and inspiring words, the demon spirit suddenly burst out laughing.
"When faced with the lord's wrath, the strategist's only strength lies in his words."
"How dare Yao Yao disrespect her master! She deserves a beating!"
Heading east, Ye Nanxiao nestled on the spirit's shoulder, passing several cities whose names he could still recall in his later years, witnessing the old places from his memories, the prosperity of a thousand years ago.
I've seen petals swirling in the wind, and I've seen leaves fall silently.
I have witnessed the bustling world and the sorrow of death.
In Ye Nanxiao's plan, the sea was the last stop.
Time flows on, palaces change, mountains and rivers transform, but the sea remains eternally unchanged.
The ocean is also a stop that Ye Nanxiao must visit in his plan.
Legend has it that the sea god's followers are found all over the sea, and even the fishermen who make a living from the sea are his followers.
"Sea spirit beasts... I wonder how many powerful beings are hidden in this vast ocean," Ye Nanxiao murmured softly. "Yao Yao, have you ever been to the ocean?"
The demon shook his head. He had lived in the inland forests since birth, occasionally traveling to explore the mountains and rivers, but he had never traveled far.
"Why is the strategist interested in the sea?" the demon spirit asked.
"The sea holds countless secrets; perhaps the land beneath your feet was once a vast ocean," Ye Nanxiao said.
The oxcart stopped, and the demon alighted, handing some coins to the old man from his pocket before continuing its shadowy journey towards the sea.
Soon a small fishing village came into view of the demon spirit and Ye Nanxiao.
The demon spirit painted some disguises on its face, carried a package on its back, and walked towards the small fishing village.
The small fishing village had a small population, and when the demon spirit reached the village entrance, it attracted the attention of some villagers.
"Young man, is there something you need?" An old man with a white towel wrapped around his head sat up from the village entrance and walked toward the demon.
"Old man, I am a traveling merchant. I traveled all the way from Xingluo to here. I just wanted to see the coastal scenery and replenish my supplies. I have no ill intentions," the demon spirit said.
The old man glanced at the demon's attire, which indeed resembled that of a traveler, with mud on his cloth shoes and a bulging backpack. Finally, his gaze fell on a small flower on the demon's shoulder.
"Nice flowers, come in, young man. But our little village doesn't have the abundance of resources that the outside world has. All we can trade you is seafood," the old man said, walking back to his seat.
"Alright, sorry to bother you." The spirit walked into the small fishing village.
A traveler from the inland arrived in the fishing village, quickly attracting the attention of the villagers.
The village was small, and the news spread quickly throughout the entire village.
Many curious villagers came out of their homes to take a look.
The demon spirit was not ashamed. Instead, it walked to a rock, took out a piece of cloth from its backpack, spread it out on the rock, and sat down.
Seeing the demon spirit sit down to rest, some bold and outgoing villagers went up to strike up a conversation.
"Young man, are you from the inland?" a dark-skinned woman stepped forward and asked.
The demon spirit nodded and smiled, "Elder sister, I come from Xingluo. Have you ever heard of the Xingluo Empire?"
"Oh dear, the Star Luo Empire certainly knows. Don't underestimate our little fishing village just because it's in a remote location. Every year, quite a few children from our village go out to work!" the woman said with a smile.
"Oh, by the way! If you're from the Star Luo Empire, then you must know a lot of knowledge, right?" the woman asked expectantly.
The demon blinked, and silently asked in his mind, "Strategist, what does this sentence mean?"
"The gist of it is that they want you to explain the various situations in Xingluo, probably so that the children in the village can get a general understanding of the outside world. Look around, there are many children staring at you," Ye Nanxiao replied.
"I dare not claim to have much knowledge, but I have been to many places," the spirit said.
"Young man, how many days are you staying in our village? There are a few empty houses in the village, why don't you stay and rest for a while?" the woman said warmly. A child who looked about five or six years old peeked out from behind the woman, his dark eyes staring at the demon spirit with curiosity.
The demon spirit hesitated for a moment, then said, "That's fine too. I was just planning to buy some supplies from you."
Hearing the spirit's reply, the woman happily said, "That's wonderful! You rest for a while. The village chief has taken all the men out fishing! I'll tell him when he returns!"
The demon spirit nodded, and after sitting for a while, more than a dozen dark figures quietly emerged from beneath it.
"Strategist, are you planning to go to sea to find the Sea Spirit Beast?" the demon spirit asked telepathically.
"I do have the idea of going to sea, but I'm not in a hurry. Let's walk along the coast first. Seaside villages usually have temples or similar places, so it's convenient to pray before going out to sea. My purpose in coming to the coast, besides the sea spirit beast, is to visit these temples that worship the sea gods." Ye Nanxiao stretched his arms and legs, feeling exhausted from sitting on the demon spirit's shoulder like a fake flower for so long.
"Temple? Strategist, are you trying to find traces of the gods?" The demon's consciousness quickly received the information transmitted back by the scattered shadows.
"It's just a side trip, a quick look from afar to see what it looks like. Didn't those humans that the Demon King interrogated mention that divine altar?" Ye Nanxiao quietly slipped off the demon spirit's shoulder.
Upon landing, Ye Nanxiao saw a little girl not far away biting her finger and staring at him.
"Hello?" Ye Nanxiao waved a blade of grass at the little girl.
The little girl looked at the waving flowers without surprise. She took two steps forward, her round eyes only glancing at Ye Nanxiao before settling on the demon spirit.
The demon looked at the little girl in front of him, and without thinking much, took out some dried fruit from his backpack and handed it to her.
"Big brother!" The little girl took the dried fruit and called out sweetly to the spirit.
The demon smiled, reached out and picked up Ye Nanxiao, placing him back on its shoulder.
"Many people have arrived; they must be the fishing fleet that the woman mentioned earlier," the spirit transmitted telepathically.
"Little sister, can you keep this walking flower a secret?" The spirit took out another dried fruit and handed it to the little girl.
"Brother!" the little girl called out happily, stuffed the dried fruit in her hand into her mouth, squatted down next to the spirit, held the dried fruit in both hands, and stuffed her mouth full.
"Hey girl!" A skinny, muscular man with a bare chest jogged over.
"Daddy!" The little girl, called Da Niu, stood up and rushed towards the burly man, holding dried fruit in her hands.
After catching his daughter, the burly man lifted her onto his shoulder and said to the demon in a friendly manner, "Hello, young brother! I am the village chief of this village. I heard you want to make a trade with our village to exchange for supplies, is that right?"
The demon stood up, clasped his hands in greeting, and said, "Yes, village chief, would it be convenient for you?"
"Very convenient! The fish from our village are usually sold to merchants twenty miles away. We usually have a surplus of fish, but since our village is by the sea, fish is all we have. Young man, would you like some?"
The spirit took out some coins and daily necessities from its backpack and asked, "Village chief, do you accept these items for trade?"
"Sure, sure!" The village chief nodded in agreement as soon as he saw the demon spirit take out some everyday items that were only available in the city.
Just as the demon spirit and the village chief were discussing the details of the transaction, Ye Nanxiao noticed a group of shirtless men walking over.
The men were still covered in water droplets, clearly having just come up from the sea. What caught Ye Nanxiao's attention was a group of white, lumpy soul beasts, resembling dumplings, following closely behind the men. Some of the dumplings were even jumping up to catch the food the men threw to them.
"Hmm? Those are, sea beast balls?" After watching for a while, Ye Nanxiao recognized that the group of bouncing, dumpling-shaped soul beasts were a type of soul beast unique to the seaside.
"Could it be that this small fishing village can cooperate with the sea spirit beast?" Ye Nanxiao wondered to himself.
