Chapter 229 Changes in the Spell
After Potions class ended, Siron left the classroom immediately and, while everyone went to the Great Hall, followed the passage under the Whomping Willow to the Screaming Shack.
But Sirius soon discovered that he was no longer there; a thin layer of dust on the armchair proved that he hadn't been there for some time.
Although no one was found, Sirius was certain that Crookshanks was acting on Sirius's orders to go after Scabbers.
"Oh, right, he only promised himself not to bother Banban before Christmas, but now Christmas is over."
But now that Sirius is gone, it's no use knowing all this.
Siren didn't linger; he transformed back into a cat and left the Screaming Shack.
By the time he returned to the auditorium, dinner was almost over.
No one found it strange that Xilun had rushed over.
It might also be related to his recent behavior - he often loses track of time when making wands, and it's common for him to arrive late. Sometimes he even misses mealtimes and has to go to the kitchen to find something to eat later.
Sitting down at the long table, Xilun quickly grabbed two pieces of fried pork chop, and then brought over black pepper and cranberry sauce.
He ate absentmindedly, his thoughts turning again to the missing Sirius Black.
Is she afraid that she will stop him?
I think so.
As the only wizard to escape from Azkaban, Sirius Black might be difficult for Sirius to find if he wanted to hide.
However, Xilun had no intention of going to find him.
Since it's unnecessary, the fact that Sirius Black could instruct Crookshanks to capture Scabbers means that Crookshanks knew where he was.
Crookshank knew, and Tom must have known too.
But Sirius was also well aware of this, and he couldn't possibly be unprepared; the fact that Tom hadn't shown up recently was the best proof of that.
But it's okay.
Xilun calmly finished his two fried pork chops.
When tomorrow comes, Sirius will appear on his own without you having to look for him.
Tomorrow is Saturday, the day of the Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, and Sirius doesn't think he can resist the temptation.
After finishing his meal, Xiren went to the responsive room again, choosing once more the room where he could practice magic. The training dummies were still the same ones, including the magical traces Xiren had left behind.
Xiren found one of the mannequins and stood in front of it.
Judging from Professor Flitwick's behavior today, he should have already accepted the wand he made. However, Siron did not feel any change, and everything was the same as usual.
Now is the time to confirm.
Xilun took a deep breath and aimed the silver mane in his hand at the training dummy in front of him.
"Repel them immediately!"
For a fleeting moment, Xiren seemed to hear someone speaking in his ear.
"The key to the knockback spell is to thrust the wand straight out like a sword—"
Subconsciously, Xilun did as instructed.
With a screeching sound, the training dummy slid backward rapidly, only coming to a stop after a long while.
Xilun immediately stepped forward and measured the distance.
Thirteen feet five inches, exactly one foot more than last time.
Looking at the measuring tape in his hand, Xilun's breathing became rapid.
It's unlikely that his magical abilities improved in such a short time. The only change during this period was that he gained a loyal guest, Professor Flitwick.
To ensure accuracy, Siron pointed his wand at the dummy again.
"Repel them immediately!"
This time there was no sound, but the dummy still moved backward thirteen feet and five inches.
It's certain that his knockback spell was stronger a few days ago.
Although this progress is very subtle, and would likely go unnoticed if Xilun hadn't been prepared, one thing is certain: this is a change brought about by just one person.
What if there were a hundred wizards?
"Recognition" Xilun remained in the same spot for a long time before he finally calmed down. He felt that one person had too little information and he needed to find more people. Professors would be best, but students would also be acceptable.
An hour later, Celen left the Room of Requirement and returned to the common room.
Because of tomorrow's match, the Gryffindor common room was packed with people, all surrounding Harry, with the Firebolt placed in the most conspicuous spot on a platform made up of three stacked tables.
Everyone wore an expression of absolute certainty, as if they had already secured victory.
"Ravenclaw rides the Seven Stars, he definitely has no chance."
"They probably couldn't even see the broomstick of the fire crossbow."
Ron was also very excited in the crowd—Harry had just taken him to experience the Firebolt, and Ron immediately forgot about the injured Scabbers.
Siren stared at the cheering Ron for a moment before turning his gaze elsewhere.
"Silen!" Just then, someone spotted him.
Fred ran over,
"You absolutely must come to the game tomorrow. I dare say it will be our easiest victory yet."
"No problem," Siren said. "I'll definitely go."
After receiving an affirmative answer from Siren, Fred nodded with satisfaction and left with Lee Jordan.
He couldn't understand why Celen wasn't interested in Quidditch, even though it was the best activity.
Meanwhile, Sheryl also found Hermione outside the crowd, hiding behind a huge pile of books, so many that the table was about to collapse.
On the top of the table was a long paper on arithmetic divination, the ink still wet. Unlike divination, arithmetic divination was more complicated, but also more logical.
Next to her was an even longer Muggle research paper, "On Why Muggles Need Electricity," a topic Hermione could hardly believe could fill two feet of parchment.
"Is there something you need?" Hermione asked, looking up after noticing Siron.
"Where's Crook Hill? Is it in your dorm?"
"Fine, so you're here to question me too?" she said in a shrill voice. "You also think Crookshanks wants to eat Scabbers."
"Isn't this a perfectly normal thing?" Siren said.
"First of all, it is definitely wrong to harm other people's pets, but at Hogwarts, at least a dozen pet mice are eaten by other people's pet cats or owls every year."
"So even if Crookshan really ate Spotted, it wouldn't be anything surprising."
Hermione paused for a moment, seemingly not expecting Siren to say that.
"But Crookshanks didn't—"
"I know, but that's not important," Celen said. "What I want to ask is, is it still in your dorm? Tom hasn't shown up for a while; Crookshanks should know where it is."
Hermione then realized that she might have misunderstood Siren.
Come to think of it, Tom's reputation is much worse than Crook Hill's; Mrs. Lorris is the best example. Filch has recently added several new school rules, most of which are related to pet cats.
"It ran away," Hermione said after thinking for a moment. "It was there this morning, but it disappeared during class this afternoon."
"I see, alright then." Xilun sighed.
"Don't worry," Hermione said. "Tom is the smartest cat I've ever seen. He'll be fine."
"I'm not worried about Tom, it's just—ah, nothing," Siron said. "I just noticed that your runic translation is wrong. The last symbol in the first line should mean 'bright,' not 'light up.'"
"Really?" Hermione immediately picked up the parchment in front of her, while Siren turned and went back to his dormitory.
