Chapter 17: The Prelude to the First Invasion - Part 1
Chapter 17: The Prelude to the First Invasion - Part 1
Nick Fury realized that the pilots who launched the suicide attacks might all be under Loki's control, so he immediately asked Vega if he could save the pilots in front of him.
"Okay." With that, Vega poured a massive amount of energy into the Hammer of Punishment. After confirming that the shield could last for about three minutes, he left the Hammer of Punishment in place, spread his wings on his back, and with a slight flap, transformed into a streak of light and rushed out of the room.
Flying along the corridor to the bridge's command area, Vega saw through the transparent glass curtain wall that a carrier-based aircraft spitting machine gun bullets was crashing into the space carrier. Vega grabbed a communication headset and crashed straight through the curtain wall.
Despite being hit by bullets, Vega activated his purification aura and rushed to the area below the carrier-based aircraft. He raised his hands upwards, and the aircraft immediately changed its flight path and flew into the sky.
Three seconds later, after confirming that the pilot had returned to normal, Vega flew off the carrier aircraft, mobilized the power of holy light to condense into a two-meter-long golden spear, and then hurled the spear into the sky with all his might.
There were still more than sixty carrier-based aircraft left. He didn't have time to play any chase games with them, so he could only let these carrier-based aircraft come to him.
In the blink of an eye, the spear rose a thousand meters, then turned and pointed downwards. With a thought, Vega caused the spear to burst into a dazzling golden light, then split into dozens of identical spears, which shot towards the missiles flying all over the sky like guided missiles.
A series of booming sounds rang out as missiles were intercepted and detonated one by one, drawing everyone's attention to Vega, who had wings on his back, wore silver armor, and hovered in mid-air.
Vega: "Which direction is Task Force 25 in?"
Maria Hill: "Attention, 17.4°562.4 nautical miles southeast of the bow of the space carrier, the strategic nuclear submarine of Task Force 25 has been launching missiles continuously for the past minute. Four D-5 intercontinental ballistic missiles have been launched so far. The target is unknown, and it is unclear whether they are carrying nuclear warheads!"
Vega's face darkened. He had only asked about the direction of Task Force 25 to lure the carrier-based aircraft after him, but he hadn't expected to learn of new troubles.
Task Force 25 is more than 500 nautical miles away from him. His current fastest flight speed is 20 times the speed of sound, so it would take him about three minutes to fly there.
The D-5's flight speed wasn't much slower than his; by the time he flew past, the missile would have long since disappeared.
"There's not enough time. I can't handle those ballistic missiles. Let the military worry about it!" With that, Vega flapped his wings slightly and sped off in the southeast.
Just as he expected, a few seconds later, the carrier-based aircraft group, having received the order, turned around and chased after him.
One of the carrier-based aircraft failed to keep up, and the pilot had already broken free of control.
After breaking free from control, he did not lose his memory of what had just happened. Realizing what he had done, he lost control of his emotions and cried loudly, letting the carrier-based aircraft fly freely in the sky.
Seeing that the crisis had temporarily subsided, Nick Fury ordered the F-35 carrier-based aircraft and Quinjet fighters waiting on the flight deck to take off. At the same time, he ordered the flight trajectories of the ballistic missiles to be calculated immediately and the joint military to attempt to intercept them.
That wasn't all; he took out his pager and sent a distress message directly to Captain Marvel.
Looking at the successful message displayed on his pager, Nick Fury muttered to himself, "I hope you can come back in time. This time, I really have no other choice."
Things were far more complicated than he had imagined. Loki, the god of evil, hadn't even appeared yet, but he had already caused them such terrible trouble. If he really summoned an alien army, could humanity defeat them?
Donning his uniform and carrying a shield, Steve boarded a Quinjet fighter jet with an elite special forces team bound for Vega, his face grim.
The crisis came quickly and ended quickly, but he could only watch helplessly from inside the protective shield the whole time, and this feeling of powerlessness was terrible.
Not just him, everyone felt very heavy-hearted.
After flying more than 100 nautical miles, Vega turned back and used maximum speed to approach the nearest F-18B carrier-based aircraft and landed on its fuselage.
Three seconds later, after confirming that the pilot had recovered, Vega lunged at the next carrier-based aircraft.
This time the enemy was prepared, and Vega spent more time on it. Moreover, as he approached, the other carrier-based aircraft attacked him and his aircraft with machine guns, forcing Vega to add an energy shield to the aircraft.
As more and more pilots returned to normal, the remaining thirty-odd carrier-based aircraft, seeing the situation was not good, turned around and flew back towards the space carrier.
Vega used the same tactic again and flew towards the location of Task Force 25, but this time the carrier-based aircraft did not pursue him.
"Troublesome." Vega was a little annoyed, but he had no choice but to turn back and chase after them.
At that moment, Nick Fury's voice came through the headset: "Lee, ignore them, go to Task Force 25. They're still launching ballistic missiles, and those missiles are carrying multiple nuclear warheads!"
Based on calculations and speculation, the missile's targets should be military bases, military facilities, troop assembly points, and even large cities such as Washington, D.C., and New York!
Upon hearing this, Vega immediately turned and flew towards Task Force 25: "Damn it, aren't the procedures for launching nuclear missiles extremely complicated?! How did they get the authorization key?!"
Nick Fury: "The higher-ups were worried about something going wrong, so they issued the launch key."
"A bunch of idiots!" Vega was speechless. Knowing that Loki could control others, they still dared to issue the launch key for the nuclear missile. Were they afraid that it would be too difficult for Loki to attack Earth?
Vega: "Why not abolish the key?"
Nick Fury: "It can't be abolished. Task Force 25 has shut down its network systems. Lee, four ballistic missiles are about to enter suborbital space. Can you intercept them?"
The success rate of intercepting ballistic missiles was too low, so he had no choice but to rely on Vega, whose flight speed was astonishing.
Vega: "I can try, but I can't guarantee success."
Fortunately, he spent a lot of money to get some galactic glaze from the dwarves and applied it to his armor; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to fly into suborbital space.
"Then you should..." Nick Fury began, but the Secretary of Defense interrupted him on the line: "Mr. Lee, please continue to rescue Task Force 25. We'll intercept those missiles!"
When the carrier-based aircraft of Task Force 25 attacked S.H.I.E.L.D. and launched ballistic missiles simultaneously, the military leadership realized that Task Force 25 was out of control and initiated interception procedures accordingly.
The flight process of a ballistic missile can be roughly divided into three stages: the initial stage, the mid-course stage, and the terminal stage. The initial stage is the launch and ascent stage, which takes about 3 to 5 minutes. The mid-course stage is the suborbital flight stage in outer space, which generally lasts for tens of minutes. The terminal stage is the attack stage from the suborbital orbit to the ground target, which lasts for only a few seconds at most.
The best stage for interception is the middle stage, with a success rate of 50%.
The probability is very high. They don't believe that Vega is stronger than the military, which is why they sent Vega to save Task Force 25.
