They exchanged a glance, seemingly assessing the situation.
The young man being chased quickly hid behind Miwako Sato, trembling with fear.
Just as the tensions were reaching a breaking point, an unexpected variable suddenly appeared.
It was only because Sato Miwako's clear cry of "Police!" stimulated Miyamoto Yumi's deep-seated professional instincts that her consciousness surfaced slightly.
Yumi Miyamoto, who was lying on Yuki Takada's back, suddenly raised her head in a daze, her eyes half-open and half-closed, completely unaware of what was going on.
In her dazed state, she only saw what appeared to be two men grinning at her friend, Sato Miwako.
As a result, the traffic officer's "occupational hazard" kicked in.
She suddenly raised one hand, drunk but unusually forceful, pointing at the two thugs, and loudly commanded in the tone she used when shouting about illegal parking:
"The...the one in front!"
"You two! Pull over! Turn off the engine!"
"Show me your driver's... driver's license and residence permit! Hiccup~"
It ended with a loud burp.
Yuuki Takada: "???"
Miwako Sato: "!!!"
Young man: ???
The two thugs: "...Huh?"
This extremely untimely and absurd "traffic inspection" order instantly froze the tense atmosphere on the scene, and then became... extremely awkward.
The two thugs were clearly bewildered by this inexplicable action, standing there stunned, unable to react for a moment to what this woman was doing, drunkenly acting crazy.
Yuki Takada and Miwako Sato exchanged a glance, but for them, this was a golden opportunity!
Chapter 75 Shinichi Kudo's Doubts
In the brief moment of the assailant's hesitation, Sato Miwako reacted swiftly, pulling out a pepper spray without hesitation and spraying it fiercely into the face of the assailant who was slightly closer.
"Ah! My eyes!" Caught off guard, the thug screamed in pain, clutching his face, and lost his ability to fight.
At almost the same time, Yuki Takada also moved.
He couldn't make any complicated movements, but taking advantage of the forward lean caused by carrying Yumi on his back, he suddenly delivered a sharp side kick, accurately striking another thug in the abdomen!
"Ugh!" The thug had no idea that the man carrying someone on his back would strike so swiftly and powerfully. He was kicked back several steps, bent over in pain, and the thing in his hand fell to the ground with a clatter.
"Sato! Quickly handcuff him!" Yuuki Takada shouted at Miwako Sato.
Sato Miwako moved swiftly, quickly taking out a simple restraint belt commonly carried by police officers and binding the hands of the thug who had been knocked out by the spray behind his back.
The thug who was kicked down by Yuki Takada, seeing his accomplice subdued in an instant and himself being hit hard, knew he was in trouble. He struggled to get up and, no longer caring about his accomplice or his "prey," turned around and tried to escape into the depths of the alley!
"Stop!" Sato Miwako shouted, about to give chase.
"Whoa~ You still want to run away?"
"Speeding... hiccup... ticket doubled!" Miyamoto Yumi muttered again, which was out of place, and swung her arm haphazardly, almost hitting Takada Yuki in the face.
Yuuki Takada quickly regained his balance, feeling both amused and exasperated.
But both he and Sato Miwako knew that they couldn't catch up while carrying Miyamoto Yumi on their backs.
However, the assailant didn't get very far.
Just seconds after he rushed into the alley, an even deeper thud came from inside, followed by a groan of pain and the sound of someone falling to the ground.
Yuki Takada and Miwako Sato were both startled and looked warily toward the dark alleyway.
A figure wearing a dark blue stand-up collar school uniform calmly walked out of the alley, accompanied by a tall girl with a small tuft of bangs sticking up on her forehead.
Upon closer inspection, it was realized that the girl was none other than Ran Mouri, the girl they had seen at Kogoro Mouri's house earlier.
Looking at the man next to Ran Mouri with his spiky bangs and stylish, voluminous hair, Takada Yuuki guessed that this person must be Shinichi Kudo, the famous detective from Teitan Junior High School.
Shinichi Kudo looked at the two people in front of him, scratched his head, and said with an embarrassed smile, "Sorry, sorry, I didn't control my foot and kicked too hard. I didn't expect to kick someone."
Ran Mouri grumbled from the side, her voice slightly cold: "Shinichi, it's so late, shall we go back? What if you accidentally kick someone in the alley?"
In front of them, the fleeing thug was curled up on the ground in pain, clutching his calf.
Next to the assailant was a soccer ball, clearly struck in the abdomen, lying upside down on the ground.
Yuki Takada and Miwako Sato were both taken aback by the dramatic scene and the sudden appearance of the two junior high school students.
Especially Yuuki Takada, whose eyes flickered slightly as he looked at the boy in front of him, thinking to himself:
'Shinichi Kudo...Shinichi Kudo?'
'Interesting, it's quite an encounter here.'
'However, seeing Ran Mouri beside her, one can roughly guess that the man next to her is Shinichi Kudo.'
'As expected of someone like the Grim Reaper, wherever he goes he encounters incidents and...them.'
Although Sato Miwako didn't know anything about the man, she breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the familiar Ran Mouri, and smiled, "It's Ran! Thank you so much! You've been a great help!"
Ran Mouri looked relieved and smiled faintly: "No, we just happened to be passing by and heard the noise. Shinichi accidentally kicked a ball, and that's how it happened!"
"Shinichi?" Miwako Sato asked, puzzled.
Upon seeing this, Ran Mouri immediately smiled and replied, "Sorry, Officer Sato forgot to introduce you. This is Shinichi Kudo, my friend."
Upon hearing this, Sato Miwako roughly understood.
It turned out that Shinichi Kudo's kick had hit the thug, causing him to fall.
Soon, Miwako Sato contacted her colleagues at a nearby police station to handle the scene and escort the perpetrators.
After initial questioning, it was learned that the young man being chased was a clerk at a nearby convenience store who was off-duty, and that the two men had stolen his wages for the day.
Fortunately, Yuki Takada and his group happened to be passing by.
The matter was resolved, and the police officers arrived.
Yuki Takada, having regained his balance, began muttering to Yumi Miyamoto, "Mikako...where's my ticket book..."
After explaining the situation to her colleagues, Sato Miwako walked over to Takada Yuki's side. Looking at Yumi, who had fallen asleep again, she couldn't help but laugh and said, "Although the process was a bit chaotic, the result is good in the end. Yumi, even when she's drunk, she can still 'do good deeds'."
Yuuki Takada smiled faintly: "Yes, she attracted the firepower in the most unique way. Let's go, it's really time to take her home this time."
After this little incident, the streets at night no longer seemed so deserted and full of uncertainty.
Under the moonlight, Yuki Takada carried the fast-sleeping Yumi on his back and walked side by side with Miwako Sato, their shadows intertwined, toward the apartment.
Not far behind them, Shinichi Kudo and his companion stood watching them leave.
Shinichi Kudo said calmly, "Looks like we don't need to get involved. Ran, don't you think that Officer Takada has been watching me the whole time?"
"Hmm...really? Officer Takada always seems to be like that," Ran Mouri replied. "When those two officers came to help my father's office before, their eyes were always like that too. Don't worry too much."
She paused, then sighed, "Shinichi, but I really don't understand you. Why do you always bring your soccer ball with you when you go out to buy things at night..."
"Shinichi, haven't you had enough of your soccer during the day?" Ran Mouri said with a hint of teasing, turning and walking in another direction. "Let's go, hurry back. If Father finds out I'm coming home so late, he'll probably scold me again."
"Hey! Ran, wait a minute..." Shinichi Kudo followed helplessly.
The night grew deeper, but this little incident undoubtedly added an unexpected and unique "fun" to the night, one that belonged only to this world.
Yuki Takada and Miwako Sato walked down a quiet street.
"Thank you for watching the movie with me today, Takada-senpai. I'm sorry to have taken up your precious weekend time," Sato Miwako said softly.
"No need to be so polite." Yuuki Takada looked at Miwako Sato, a glint in his eyes. "It's rare to see so many inexplicable cases these days. After working so hard for so long, I'm bound to feel a lot of pressure. This is a good opportunity for me to relax."
Sato Miwako's face flushed slightly, and she nodded gently: "By the way, I noticed you seemed to be chatting with us the whole time, and you didn't call Inspector Megure back. Should we give it to him..."
Yuuki Takada looked at her and shook his head: "No need. At this time of day, Inspector Megure should already be asleep. It wouldn't be good to call and disturb his sleep."
drop by drop...
Sato Miwako's phone suddenly rang. She looked at the contact name and said, "See, I knew it. Inspector Megure wouldn't be resting this early. It really was him calling."
She answered the phone and replied, "Yes, Inspector Megure, what did you say? Inspector Takada? Oh, he's here! He's right next to me!"
"Yes, it's good to be by your side."
"Oh, it's nothing... no need to rush, you guys just go about your business."
Chapter 76 has a unique charm.
Inspector Megure's call came suddenly and ended just as abruptly.
Miwako Sato remained in the position of answering the phone, but all she could hear was a busy tone.
"What's wrong?" Takada Yuki asked, turning his head. Miyamoto Yumi squirmed restlessly on his back, muttering drunken ramblings that no one could understand.
Miwako Sato frowned slightly, looking at the end-of-call screen on her phone: "Inspector Megure hung up without explaining anything... He just asked if you were there, and I said yes, and then he said, 'It's okay, it's okay, you guys go about your business,' and his tone seemed a bit... rushed?"
Yuki Takada's gaze swept over the two thugs being led into a police car not far away, as well as his colleague who was taking notes, before finally settling back on Miwako Sato's face.
“He might just be checking to make sure we’re safe. After all…” Yuuki Takada’s lips curled into a faint smile, “Tonight’s report might be a bit longer than expected.”
Sato Miwako smiled upon hearing this and put her phone back in her pocket: "Yes, we have to thank these two 'helpful citizens'." Her gaze turned to the direction where Kudo Shinichi and Mouri Ran had left, even though they had already disappeared around the corner.
“That boy…” Takada Yuki suddenly spoke, his voice steady yet carrying a barely perceptible hint of inquiry, “Kudo Shinichi. Did you see clearly how he hit that fleeing thug with the soccer ball?”
Sato Miwako thought for a moment and shook her head: "The angle wasn't good, I couldn't see it clearly."
"I only heard a sound, and then I saw the person fall down."
“Xiao Lan said he kicked it by accident… although that ‘accident’ was a bit too precise and forceful.” Her tone carried the instinctive suspicion of a police officer, but then she was relieved. “However, the result was good.”
"Furthermore, I heard from Ran that he is the son of Yusaku Kudo. I heard that he has a strong ability to reason and often helps the police solve cases. Inspector Megure values him highly."
“Yusaku Kudo’s son…” Yuki Takada repeated in a low voice, his eyes flashing thoughtfully for a moment, but he didn’t say anything more.
He simply adjusted the position of Yumi Miyamoto on his back to make her sleep more comfortably. "Let's go, take Yumi home first. We can talk about the rest tomorrow."
The two resumed their journey to the apartment.
Walking along the main street, a night breeze occasionally blows by.
