A deafeningly loud noise came from above.
The car window shattered instantly under the violent shockwave, turning into countless sharp fragments that rained down like ice shards!
Sharp shards grazed the arms and back of Yuuki Takada as he protected Sato, tearing the fabric and causing a burning pain.
The entire carriage shook and tilted violently, as if it were about to derail and overturn at any moment.
Packages on the overhead racks and items in passengers' hands were tossed about as if by an invisible hand, flying everywhere and hitting seats, floors, and people, causing a chaotic scene of screams and cries.
A pungent smell, a mixture of gunpowder smoke, a burnt smell, and the strong odor of some kind of burning chemical substance, instantly filled the nasal cavity, making it difficult to breathe.
Chapter 32 You Don’t Want to Live
The lights flickered wildly a few times amidst the violent shaking.
The lights then went out completely, plunging the carriage into complete darkness.
Only the fleeting afterimages of scenery rushing past the window and the sky reddened by the explosions provided a chaotic source of light.
"Uh!"
Sato Miwako, who was being tightly protected by Takada Yuki, let out a muffled groan.
The huge impact and fall made her dizzy instantly.
But what shattered her heart even more was this sudden disaster.
explode?!
On the Shinkansen?!
A sense of duty as a police officer made Miwako Sato instinctively want to look up and check the situation, and to help the injured.
"do not move!"
Almost at the same moment, Yuuki Takada's deep, hoarse voice rang in her ear, constantly warning her.
Yuuki Takada stretched out his arm to block her, preventing her from making any movement to look up.
"There are fragments!"
"Never look up!"
Yuuki Takada could clearly feel a lot of glass shards and debris hitting his back and head with a crackling sound.
Even more deadly was that after the initial explosion, he keenly detected—gunfire!
The extremely short, cold, and precise bursts of gunfire pierced through the chaotic cries and screams inside the carriage.
The sound came from the direction of the explosion!
Yuki Takada could not have misheard that distinctive gunshot.
Who is it!
In the chaos, not only did some of the Shinkansen cars explode, but gunfire even broke out inside the cars.
To create... even greater chaos?
Yuki Takada's heart sank to the bottom.
Explosion, gunshots, Gin... Putting these three words together makes it seem like something far from accidental!
The organization must be carrying out an extremely dangerous mission on the train!
Although we don't know what they are secretly carrying out.
Especially for Detective Sato Miwako, who was completely unaware of the situation, she was now in a precarious position, practically living on the edge of a knife!
Sato Miwako naturally heard those unusual gunshots, and her body stiffened abruptly beneath Takada Yuki.
That wasn't the aftershock of an explosion; it was the sound of gunfire!
Her professional instincts allowed her to make the judgment instantly.
Fear, anger, and a strong sense of mission surged within her.
She wanted to question Takada-senpai about what she knew and why she wasn't allowed to rush out and perform her duties immediately.
But Yuuki Takada's heavy, oppressive presence and cold words undoubtedly rendered her immobile.
"listen to me!"
"Stay put!"
Yuki Takada whispered something in her ear.
Every word seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth, carrying an unprecedented solemnity.
Then, Yuuki Takada slightly raised his head, his cold, sharp gaze piercing through the billowing smoke and chaotic figures, locking onto the direction of the rear carriage door.
The door panel seemed to be deformed by the explosion, and through the gaps, even more chaotic light and shadow and swaying figures could be seen from outside.
Chaos is spreading.
The groans of countless wounded, the heart-wrenching cries of children, and the terrified screams of people filled the entire dark carriage.
The train continued to glide at high speed due to inertia, but the braking system was clearly working frantically, emitting a screeching friction sound, and each deceleration brought a violent jolt.
Gin and vodka were in the front carriage, and the explosion behind them, though violent, did not seem to be entirely aimed at them.
It seems more like a tactic used by the organization to create panic, block access routes, and facilitate their evacuation.
Yuki Takada's mind raced amidst the excruciating pain and the deafening roar.
The spot on my back where the shard hit me was burning with pain, and my forehead seemed to be scraped as well, with warm blood flowing down my brow bone.
"Ugh..." Sato Miwako let out a suppressed whimper beneath him, not from pain, but from extreme anger and helplessness.
She recognized the sounds; those bursts of gunfire were the ruthless and efficient techniques commonly used by professional assassins.
"Takada-senpai! Let me go! Someone's firing, I have to..."
Sato Miwako looked anxiously at Takada Yuuki in front of her and said.
"Shut up!" Yuuki Takada growled.
His tone became harsher, almost carrying a violent and oppressive air, as he said, "Do you want to die?!"
"Look up and you'll see flying metal fragments! They're here to kill, not some ordinary criminal suspect! You're just rushing in alone, trying to become a sitting duck?!"
Yuuki Takada increased the pressure in his hands, pressing down hard on her shoulders and neck, forcing her to lie pressed against the cold, twisted floor.
Miwako Sato could clearly feel the trembling of his tense muscles.
The carriage was filled with the pungent smell of gunpowder, the smell of burnt plastic, and... a faint smell of blood.
The red light flashing past the window projected the swaying shadows of people inside the carriage onto the distorted walls.
Despite the pain, Yuuki Takada raised his head again, his sharp, hawk-like eyes piercing through the billowing smoke and swaying figures, locking onto the deformed door connecting to the carriage ahead.
The light filtering through the crack in the door was even more chaotic, with shadowy figures moving about, and screams seemed to be coming more from that direction.
He was certain that the gunshots came from that area.
boom!
boom!
Two more crisp and clean bursts of fire!
Closer than before!
The whistling sound of bullets tearing through the air even briefly drowned out the chaotic noise.
"Ah—!" A bloodcurdling scream came from the direction of the door, followed by a heavy thud as a person fell to the ground.
Although he didn't know why things were like this inside, he knew that five people were completely dead!
"Pick up 50 points of disguise".
Pick up 50 weapon points.
"Collect 50 points for arrest."
"Pick up 50 point of speed."
"Pick up 50 points of combat skill".
“Collect 50 points of reasoning.”
The organization is eliminating witnesses, in other words... clearing obstacles from their path!
But now he had no choice. As a police inspector of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, if he didn't intervene when something like this happened on the Shinkansen, it would attract the attention of his superiors and make them suspicious.
Yuuki Takada instinctively reached for his lower back, where his sidearm was hidden—as an undercover agent.
Even on vacation, he habitually carries it with him; it's both a lifesaver and a death warrant.
The moment his fingers touched the cold gun handle, Sato Miwako, who was behind him, suddenly stiffened.
At such close range, Yuuki Takada's subtle body movements, and that extremely concealed yet strangely familiar outline to her—the visual impression of a holster!
Her pupils suddenly contracted in the darkness.
Takada-senpai...why do you always carry a gun with you?
Her breathing stopped instantly, her mind went blank, and even the pain in her back and the rumble of the train disappeared.
It's not an illusion!
Takada-senpai's defensive midfield position definitely had a sidearm!
This is highly unusual for an undercover police officer on leave!
More importantly, it was the timing of his intervention that mattered.
All the scattered clues were connected at this moment by this cold, hard object, pointing to a possibility that chilled her to the bone and was hard to believe.

“Takada-senpai…you…” Sato Miwako murmured.
A look of incomprehensible astonishment flashed in his eyes, and even his whispered words began to tremble, barely forming coherent sentences.
