Chapter 1 I'm Just a Good Person Passing By
Tokyo, Shinkansen train.
The train was packed with people, most of whom were business people, carrying briefcases and looking both capable and tired.
Several news items suddenly came on the radio—
Renowned magician Toichi Kuroba tragically died during a magic performance. The case has been closed by police as an accidental death.
[B-Komachi, a famous idol, is a 16-year-old girl who died unexpectedly. The police are currently investigating the case.]
[Recently, passengers have reported pickpockets on Shinkansen trains. Please be extra careful with your belongings.]
……
"Ahhh..." a woman screamed, "There's a pervert!"
Amidst the crowded scene, Sato Miwako glanced around and immediately noticed a suspicious-looking man next to the woman.
The man was wearing a black baseball cap, the brim pulled down so low that his face was almost completely obscured; the only thing visible was the cold smile on his lips.
His jet-black trench coat made him stand out completely from the other passengers on the train.
The other party raised his hand and waved it lightly. The whole set of movements was smooth and fluid, without the slightest hesitation or indifference. With lightning speed, he grabbed a man's arm.
Sato Miwako's figure moved silently behind him like a ghost.
A silver handcuff had somehow appeared on his wrist, and the man in front of him took advantage of the moment to break free and escape.
"Pervert, stop right now, I'm a police officer." Sato Miwako's sharp gaze swept up and down the man in black.
Upon hearing this, the man in black slowly turned around and raised his head, revealing a pair of deep and cunning eyes under the brim of his hat.
The sneer on his lips didn't disappear; instead, it became even more amused.
"Officer, you mustn't wrong an innocent person." His voice was deep and slightly magnetic, with a hint of provocation.
"A good person?" Sato Miwako frowned, unconsciously increasing the pressure on her hand. "Weren't you the only one next to that woman just now? The way you reached out just now proves that you are the pervert."
"Hehe..." The man in black gently shook his handcuffed wrists, producing a few crisp metallic clanging sounds.
In the blink of an eye, he removed the silver handcuffs and said with a smile, "Officer, the quality of your Metropolitan Police Department's handcuffs is somewhat substandard."
"That's enough. You've damaged official property. You have to come back with me today."
"Go back?" The man in black nodded calmly.
Seeing that the other party had agreed, Sato Miwako secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as he was about to negotiate with the victim, he was interrupted by the man in black:
"I just wanted to help that lady catch the pervert, but I didn't expect you, officer, to be so reckless and let the real criminal get away."
"Ah—?" Sato Miwako drawled out the last syllable.
She felt a chill run down her spine, realizing that her actions had been somewhat reckless.
But she persisted in her own opinion and questioned, "Why are you dressed so strangely? And why are you hiding your face?"
The man in black shrugged and said casually:
"It's just my personal style, but judging someone as a criminal based solely on their clothing style is far too hasty."
"Officer, my attire is simply a matter of personal preference. On the contrary, those businessmen dressed in normal suits, do you dare say they don't harbor any ill intentions?"
Upon hearing this, Sato Miwako's expression hardened, and she looked around.
They all stared intently at the scenery outside the window, their faces glistening with cold sweat.
On the train, almost no one is idle enough to ask unnecessary questions.
"Of course, I think even if they have bad intentions, they probably wouldn't tell you or me."
Miwako Sato lowered her head and pondered deeply, still feeling utterly perplexed.
Seeing that she didn't quite believe him, the man in black raised his voice and walked towards a man in the corner.
“Look at this gentleman. Although his overall attire looks no different from those office workers, if you look closely, you can see that the collar of his shirt is messy and he hasn’t even tied his tie.”
"This is definitely not what an ordinary office worker should be like."
The man in black raised his hand and gently placed it on the shoulder strap of the backpack:
"Considering that your backpack looks brand new, you probably don't look like one of those tourists from out of town."
Following the black-clad man's lowered gaze, I inadvertently noticed a red mark on his wrist.
"At this time of day, apart from office workers and students, the answer is obvious: you must be the pervert that woman was talking about."
"Humph."
Upon hearing this, the man in the suit turned around and complained to Miwako Sato:
"Officer, you must rely on evidence. How could you believe this man's nonsense? Arrest him immediately!"
Sato Miwako was also a little hesitant. She looked at the man in black and then at the man in the suit.
Although the man in black's words sounded somewhat absurd, the details he had just pointed out were indeed somewhat suspicious.
"Evidence?" The man in black sneered. "Fine, I'll make you admit defeat."
He suddenly reached out and ripped off the man in the suit's backpack.
Amidst the astonished gazes of the crowd, a woman's wallet and some personal belongings were found inside the bag.
"What... what's going on?" Sato Miwako's eyes widened.
The man in the suit turned pale instantly. He tried to snatch his bag back, but the man in black easily dodged him with a sidestep.
Seeing that his operation had failed, the man in the suit ignored the backpack in front of him and fled frantically toward the carriage behind him.
The next moment, the man in black moved with lightning speed, appearing in front of him without him even noticing, and skillfully handcuffed him with silver handcuffs.
"Shosuke Matsui, you can't escape."
"You...you, who are you? How do you know my name?" The man in the suit glanced at him, puzzled.
The man in black smiled faintly and took out a numbered card from his pocket.
Upon seeing the card, the man in the suit subconsciously touched his pocket, and his face immediately darkened.
Seeing Sato Miwako following closely behind, the man in black naturally felt at ease entrusting her to her care.
Sato Miwako returned to the scene, tidying up the things in her backpack, and looked at the woman: "Are these your things?"
The woman nodded repeatedly: "Yes, officer, I thought there were only perverts on the train, but I didn't expect that even the things in my bag were taken..."
"Thank you." The woman thanked the two of them, just as the train pulled up at the platform.
Then, she hurriedly got off the train.
Watching the other person leave, Sato Miwako realized that she seemed to have misunderstood them.
There was one thing she had to admit: the man's prediction was indeed correct.
But are there really people in everyday life who can observe such subtle details?
From beginning to end, he solved the case in less than a minute, and the first time he arrested the suspect, provided that he was not interfered with.
But the man in black in front of her could quickly analyze it after just one glance.
This is definitely not something an ordinary person can do.
Sato Miwako felt that the man in black in front of her was rather dangerous.
She asked instinctively:
"who are you?"
"I am Yuuki Takada."
"No, I didn't ask your name?"
"I was just a kind passerby."
"..."
Sato Miwako frowned, her defenses broken by his last sentence.
Who asked his name?
What she wanted to know was, what exactly did the other party do?
Just as she was about to press for more information, her phone suddenly rang. She glanced at the caller ID and saw it was a call from the Metropolitan Police Department.
"Officer Sato, we just received a message."
"This case on the Shinkansen train may be linked to a larger criminal organization."
