Chapter 43 Protect the Captain
Chapter 43 Protect the Captain
All the young wizards watching from a 'God's-eye view' saw that the members of the Slytherin team flew lower, using vegetation and similar things to try to conceal the aura emanating from their bodies.
Gore and Bosde walked on the upper route—a suspension bridge, and the two of them together were almost as wide as the bridge.
Because the academy team hadn't been involved in this route, they made their way unimpeded, quickly heading towards the opponent's respawn point... They didn't even bother with the dwarf pig monster under the blue flag blocking the middle of the suspension bridge... Instead, they simply leaped over its head.
Pansy Parkinson, Daphne Greengrass, and Moen Blaitch took the middle route—a route that leads to Turning Canyon, which is closer to the Institute All-Stars.
As expected, the three girls encountered the Petit sisters in a wide open area some distance from the canyon entrance.
Two flags, separated by a tan color, are conversing—
"You're here to kill the pig-like monsters here, right?"
Parvati spoke first, riding on her flying broomstick, half a body length ahead of her sister. Her voice was stern, yet it betrayed a hint of cowardice beneath her fierce demeanor.
This is not surprising, after all, they are only two sisters, while the other side has three.
"And what are your plans?"
Pansy Parkinson looked at the two sisters with great interest, her sarcastic smile suggesting they had already won.
We must get to the enemy's respawn point as quickly as possible and kill their Malfoy.
This was the Petit sisters' primary objective.
"Let's go and cause trouble for Malfoy."
With a thought flashing through her mind, Parvati calmly spoke to the Slytherin trio sixty feet away.
"Then we share the same goal."
Daphne's tone was aloof.
"None of us have any of the Stunning Curses, so we're not capable of killing this pig-like monster... It seems none of you do either. In that case, there's no conflict between us."
After a moment's hesitation, Parvati nodded.
The two groups slowly moved apart on their flying brooms, until they switched directions and then retreated away from each other.
"I feel something's not quite right, Parvati—"
Padma looked on with suspicion as she watched the trio fly rapidly into the bend in the canyon they had just left.
"They could have chosen to kill us here, couldn't they...? They need one more person."
"Maybe it's because they don't want to waste their time on us—"
Parvati said that a sense of urgency welled up in his heart.
"Let's speed things up, Padma!"
Almost the same scene unfolded with Ron's squad and Malfoy's Sabine and Nott... but the results were completely different.
The two teams arrived at the bottom lane open area at the same time and faced each other across the green flag.
"You're here to kill the pig-like monsters too, right?"
Terry Boots raised his special wand halfway, his thumb resting on the red button. He looked at Malfoy, his expression a mixture of wariness and anticipation.
After all, Malfoy is the captain; killing him would directly win the game.
"Oh, even so, what are you planning to do?"
Malfoy wore a smug smile.
"This approach is unwise."
Susan Bornes said calmly,
"Although the captain can withstand more attacks, he is easily killed once he gets involved in the chaotic battle."
"Oh, then why don't you guys give it a try?"
Malfoy said, looking at them defiantly.
Ron and the others fell silent... Their primary objective was to kill the dwarf pig monster; if they got bogged down by Malfoy and his two companions... oh, they already were bogged down.
Whether dealing with the piglet while being harassed by the three Slytherins, or directly confronting and attempting to kill Malfoy, it is not an easy task.
Seeing the hesitant faces of the combined academy team, Draco Malfoy's pale face flashed with a cunning glint, and he suddenly shouted,
"Attack! Kill the dwarf pig monster first!"
Swish, swish!
Two crimson beams of light shot towards Terry Boots like arrows released from a bow.
Why was Malfoy shouting to kill the pig-like monster, yet the attack was directed at him? Terry Boot was momentarily confused... He didn't have time to think about it further; he just took a deep breath and crouched down on the flying broom.
This evasive maneuver helped him avoid Sabini's curse, but it didn't help him dodge Nott's... After being hit by the red curse light, a conspicuous "[Life -1]" appeared on the red cloak behind him!
"They're here to steal the pig-like monster!"
Ron shouted in a panic,
"Bloher, don't let them beat us to it!"
Almost simultaneously, Susan, Ron, Terry, and Mandy pounced on the pig monster under the silver-green flag—the pig monster looked to have been separated from its mother's womb for quite some time, and was as big as a baby elephant!
Along the way, Ron and the others had already come up with a rough plan: if they encountered enemies trying to steal the dwarf pig monster, Ron, Terry, and Susan would spread out to form a human wall, creating space and time for Mandy.
They did indeed act according to plan, but at the same time as they did, Malfoy and his two companions immediately launched their own operation!
Instead of rushing towards the flag, the three Slytherins circled around it, successfully taking over the space left by Ron and the others after they moved, and then—
"They ran away?!"
Ron was dumbfounded.
Malfoy, as the captain of Slytherin, grinned menacingly at them. Then, he abandoned Sabine and Nott and sped off towards the House team's respawn point, following the path Ron and the others had taken!
"It's over!"
Harry, watching from inside the octagon, turned pale upon seeing this and murmured,
"It's definitely going to fail!"
"uncertain."
Hermione gripped the vine fence tightly with both hands, her face equally distressed.
"There's still a sliver of hope... If Mandy can kill the dwarf pig monster under the silver-green flag as soon as possible, everyone's flying brooms will double in speed... Maybe there'll still be a chance to escape the encirclement..."
Hermione mumbled, but she knew the chances were slim.
It wasn't because I didn't trust Mandy Brohe of Ravenclaw, but because I lacked confidence in Neville.
Hermione wondered if Neville would faint when he realized how many people he was surrounded!
The three young wizards—Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Gryffindor—who had not yet participated in the battle, all looked ashen-faced; they had already foreseen the possible defeat that was about to befall them.
Ares, on the other hand, watched the Slytherin students' performance below with a keen interest.
Slytherin's tactics weren't particularly sophisticated, but they were certainly very cunning.
None of this team possessed the Tripping Charm, so none of them could defeat the pig-like monsters. Given this situation, prolonging the match would be very disadvantageous for them—the Academy Team could even rely on Mandy Brogh to absorb all three buffs and then leisurely encircle and annihilate them.
Therefore, for Slytherin, there is only one way to win—ignore the hog monsters and hunt Neville Longbottom directly!
To achieve this, they need to split into three groups, blocking the upper, middle, and lower routes to prevent Nawi from focusing solely on escaping.
If they were to actually encounter Neville escaping, it would be quite a difficult situation for Slytherins. After all, everyone's flying broomsticks are about the same speed, and they might not be able to catch Neville even after chasing him around Mist Hollow several times.
"Malfoy is here!"
Ernie and Neville, who were at the respawn point, saw the faint outline of the captain's crown from a distance. They saw Malfoy and Ron meet... They thought there would be a fierce battle, but there wasn't.
Malfoy abandoned his two teammates and ran towards them!
"That perfectly matches my impression of Slytherin!"
Ernie rotated his wrist, a smug smile spreading across his face.
"So what should we do?!"
"Neville asked, panting heavily. Both his hand holding the broom and his hand holding the special wand were trembling."
As Malfoy's figure gradually became clearer, even revealing his flowing golden hair and rosy cheeks, Neville trembled even more violently. He panicked and instinctively lowered his flying broomstick even further... to avoid falling and getting hurt!
"Isn't the situation clear enough, Neville?"
The two sides were now less than a hundred feet apart. Ernie's gaze was fixed on the rapidly approaching Malfoy, and he excitedly raised his wand.
"It's two against one now, Neville, we're sure to win... Oh, we're the ones who will help the team win!"
Ernie's lips curled into an excited smile; he was ready to show off his skills... but—
Strange, why is Malfoy wearing a smug smile... Doesn't he realize he's in deep trouble?
Unaware that he was about to face both himself and Nave at the same time... Even so, why didn't he turn back and rejoin the two teammates who were on the same path?
Ernie, filled with confusion, stared intently at Malfoy, watching as Malfoy also raised his specially made wand...
"Get rid of the ones in the way first!"
Malfoy suddenly let out a sharp shout.
Swish—swish swish—swish swish!
Ernie confirmed that the cursed beam he had unleashed had hit Malfoy... and of course, Malfoy had hit himself as well, but—
A cold, high-pitched woman's voice suddenly rang out across the misty valley, freezing Ernie's smile... and causing Malfoy's face to flush instantly!
[Congratulations to Draco Malfoy from Slytherin for delivering the final blow and successfully killing Ernie McMillan from Hufflepuff!]
