Chapter 60: The Night Walker
Chapter 60: The Night Walker
Summer was fast approaching, and Cinderella wiped her mouth, looked out the window at the moonlight, and raised an eyebrow.
I just saw off that idiot student of mine... So what should I do now?
Cinderella didn't really want to study those magic circles today, or rather, she didn't really want to in the future. She felt that she might not be naturally suited to studying these things... and she hadn't gained anything after all these years.
She couldn't help but feel a little frustrated. Although time wasn't valuable, the feeling of making no progress was enough to annoy her.
How about we go for a walk?
Suddenly, Cinderella was a little surprised that she would have such a thought.
Since coming into this world, I have only gone out a handful of times on my own initiative... partly because I'm lazy, and partly because I'm lazy.
Well, there's also the possibility that the races in this world follow a nocturnal pattern... and whenever Cinderella wanted to go out, there were hardly any people outside.
Even in a metropolis like Sharia, only a few taverns and similar establishments remain open late at night.
But Catherine didn't want to go drinking or anything like that...
Now I'm actually having the idea of going out on my own initiative... Is it because of Luo Qixi's influence?
Although she seems to be the lazy type... I think the time I went out with her for New Year's Eve was pretty good?
If only I had kept her here earlier... it would be too late to go find her now.
Even Cinderella knew what it felt like to be woken up from sleep.
So she nodded slightly, picked up the hood hanging on the wall, and quietly walked out of the Astronomical Tower.
The La Noah Magic University was incredibly quiet late at night. The dormitory buildings were dimly lit, with only a few lights on.
Looking down from the high walls of the campus, Chariah was still brightly lit, at least in some areas.
Let's go check it out there then.
Sidrin slightly spread her wings and leaped into the air.
Soon, she found a relatively secluded spot and landed slowly.
However, as she walked down the road, she heard some unpleasant sounds... Sure enough, only places like this could be so lively at this hour.
If Luo Qixi were here, she would definitely blush and be speechless, after all, she is the kind of person who blushes even when she hears about sexual intercourse.
Cidelina casually peeked through a slightly ajar door and saw a man and a woman "fighting".
"Um?"
As if noticing him, the man turned his head to look at Catherine, who was quietly watching him.
He seemed about to say something, but upon meeting Cinderella's icy gaze, he subconsciously pursed his lips, then stopped somewhat awkwardly, walked to the door, and slowly closed it.
Tch, how stingy.
Sidley raised an eyebrow and didn't linger there any longer, instead following her memory to walk to the other side of the street.
If she remembered correctly, this was a place where she could buy good things... As she stepped over the street corner, the somewhat dim street brightened up.
At the intersection of several streets, the once sparsely populated area is now filled with various stalls.
"A slave, a top-quality beast-eared slave! Mastered fourteen kinds of spring-crying techniques, a slave you've never seen before!"
"Come and see! Look! These are precious weapons left over from the war between humans and demons. It's said they once wounded the demon god Laplace!"
"A booklet filled with the secrets of the Kingdom of Asura, a booklet that even Lord Milis would want to read!"
That's right, this is Sharia's black market. It gets lively every night... When Cinderella first came to Sharia, she also bought a few things here out of curiosity.
For example, that book of secret stories—after buying it, she discovered it was a collection of erotic short stories disguised as a book… Would Milis be curious about such a thing?
Therefore, she also knew that most of the things here were fakes... or just for fun.
"Look, look! These stones were transported from the gem mines of the Kingdom of Asura!"
"Agate, diamonds, rubies... you can find them all here! If you're willing to gamble, there's nothing you can't find."
"Even the magic crystals of magical beasts are possible!"
Upon hearing these words, Cinderella subconsciously became a little curious.
Is there really such a thing as jade gambling here? She had seen some news on Earth before, and most of them were about jade gambling scams.
However, she was quite interested... not that she wanted to gamble herself, but she was just curious about what kind of fool would be fooled.
So she took a small step and walked over to the stall that was shouting the loudest, and peered inside through the gaps between the onlookers.
Sure enough, a guy was picking out stones. He quickly chose one from a dozen stones and then handed it to the shopkeeper with some trepidation.
The boss glanced at it, and without thinking twice, he cut the stone open. As you can imagine, there was nothing inside.
Amidst the laughter of the crowd, the unlucky stone gambler left with tears in his eyes.
Sidley raised an eyebrow, her gaze sweeping over the stones before her. Of course, she couldn't see anything special about them... If it were a few people commenting on the taste of blood, she could say something about it.
But stones... in her eyes, they're all just stones.
But just then, she suddenly sensed something and turned her head slightly to look behind her.
There stood a tall man wrapped in a robe. He walked slowly to the stall with somewhat heavy steps and then looked down at it.
Even though his face was hidden under his hood, Cidlin could still catch a glimpse of his dark, vertical pupils.
Vertical pupils?
Vertical pupils are not very common in this world... Sidlin had only seen one recently, and that was the dragon god Orstide... but the guy in front of her was clearly not him.
After all, the mere appearance of that guy should be enough to instill fear in these people, right?
The tall man seemed to have noticed Catherine as well. He glanced down at her, but apparently only regarded her as a child, so he said in a somewhat muffled voice, "Children shouldn't get involved in these things."
As he spoke, he squeezed past Catherine with a slight effort.
"Interesting..." Cinderella sneered without saying anything, but followed him and squeezed to the side of the jade gambling stall.
"Sir... are you also interested in gambling on jade? This place is..."
"I know the rules." The man interrupted the boss, casually tossing out a few Asura silver coins before reaching out and picking up a stone.
He lightly weighed the stone in his hand, then put it down.
Then, under everyone's curious gaze, he picked up one stone after another.
After taking almost all the stones, he raised an eyebrow and stopped.
"You're more sincere than I thought," he said somberly. "At least there's something real inside."
"I'll take this one."
Seeing his confident demeanor, Cidline found it somewhat amusing.
It seems I've met someone rather unusual.
Seeing that he had made his choice, the shopkeeper didn't waste any words and, in front of everyone, took a knife and slashed at him fiercely.
Amidst the curious gazes of the crowd, a gray material was revealed at the broken stone...
Ah, it still looks like a stone.
Amidst the laughter, the shopkeeper casually tossed the stone aside, but the man reached out his hand.
"I'm sorry, sir... we don't offer refunds here."
"I don't want the money... I want the stone." The man's words undoubtedly drew even louder laughter.
But he took the stone from the shopkeeper without a care, then turned and walked out of the crowd.
He put the stone in his pocket as if it were a treasure, and then walked quickly toward the exit of the black market. But when he reached a slightly quiet corner, he suddenly stopped.
"Kid, what are you doing following me?" He turned his head slightly to look at Cinderella, who was following behind him.
"You're an interesting person," Sidley said with a shrug, having made no attempt to hide. "That wasn't an ordinary stone, was it?"
"..." The man paused for a few seconds, then said, "You're not an ordinary child, are you?"
As he spoke, he subtly placed his hand inside his robes, as if holding some kind of weapon.
Seeing his actions, Cidlin shook her head slightly: "I'm just a slightly curious guy."
Her cool voice echoed quietly in the street, but it made the man stop in his tracks.
"Don't be so curious about unfamiliar things," he said slowly. "It could cost you your life."
"Is that so?" Sidrin said, slowly removing her hood to reveal her silver hair... Her silver hair shone faintly in the moonlight, like a flowing galaxy.
"Even if dragons suddenly appeared here... would it still be the same?"
The red eyes watched silently, gazing at the dark vertical pupils beneath the hood.
