"What do you know about beauty! What do you know about liking!"
His hands, like iron clamps, gripped Ryosuke and Shota tightly around the back of their necks.
"You two brats, listen up! The knife is your partner! It's your second life! It's your only weapon against evil spirits! Especially you!"
Steel Mound looked at Ryosuke.
"If you dare to break my sword again like Fujikasayama did, crack it, or dull it, I'll stuff you both into the furnace! Do you understand?"
Shota broke out in a cold sweat from the shout: "Listen, listen carefully! Mr. Steelzuka! Absolutely not! I swear!"
Ryosuke nodded calmly.
Steel Tomb snorted coldly and turned to leave.
Rika ran up to Ryosuke, her eyes sparkling.
"Ryosuke-nii's white sword is like jade, so beautiful! It's much prettier than his golden glittery sword!"
Her words were innocent and naive, yet they struck precisely at Shota's subtle emotions.
"Hey! Pear Blossom! What nonsense are you spouting!"
Shota immediately retorted.
"Hmph, that's exactly right!"
Pear Blossom made a face at him.
Just then, a dark blue shadow swept past, accompanied by a cry.
"Gah! Ryosuke Yasui, Level 3 Order: A man-eating demon has appeared in Hinode Mountain, Tokyo Prefecture!"
Chapter 6 You are not the murderer!
"understood."
Ryosuke stroked the hummingbird's head.
The Demon Slayer Corps ranks from highest to lowest as follows: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, G.
The Gui-rank is the lowest-ranking swordsman who has just joined the Demon Slayer Corps.
Above Grade A is the Pillar.
It takes at least five years for a normal person to become a pillar.
Slay 50 evil spirits, or slay one of the twelve demon moons.
With less than a year to live, Ryosuke did not delay at all and went straight into the house.
He changed into his team uniform and haori, and quickly packed his luggage.
Ciwulang and the other two came to see him off.
Pear Blossom pulled out a talisman made of coarse indigo cloth from her bosom.
The stitches on it are a bit immature, and the character "安" is embroidered crookedly.
Without saying a word, she stuffed the amulet into Ryosuke's hand, her face flushed.
“Brother Ryosuke is wearing this. I sewed it myself. Grandpa said it will protect him and keep him safe.”
Ryosuke smiled and ruffled Rinka's hair.
"Yes, thank you, Pear Blossom."
Shota pouted, feeling extremely resentful.
Ryosuke ignored him, greeted Jigoro, and prepared to go down the mountain.
Shota couldn't help but shout.
He pointed to the sword at Ryosuke's waist, with a hint of awkwardness typical of a young boy.
"Are you alright with that...that weird knife of yours?"
As soon as he said it, even he felt it was a bit harsh.
But the boy's pride and competitiveness forced him to continue speaking despite his reluctance.
"Don't die out there! You'll embarrass your grandfather!"
Jigoro's cane struck Shota's head hard.
"You brat! What nonsense are you spouting!"
Shota covered his head and took a few steps back.
Jigoro looked at Ryosuke and softened his voice.
"Come back safely."
Ryosuke bowed to Jigoro and turned to leave.
"Ryosuke-nii! Watch out!" Rika shouted.
Ryosuke didn't turn around, but raised his right hand and waved.
A hummingbird flew through the night sky to guide Ryosuke.
Ryosuke had been traveling for half a day, and his failing liver left him feeling weak and aching.
"Damn it, this lousy body..."
Ryosuke gritted his teeth and leaned against a tree trunk by the roadside, panting.
A hummingbird landed on his shoulder, making a soft "cheep cheep" sound.
"It's okay, I can't die."
Ryosuke wiped his sweat and then asked in his mind, "Hey, Commander, come out!"
[Ding-dong~ Dear host, what are your orders~]
"Stop talking nonsense! I'm asking you something,"
Ryosuke took a deep breath and asked the question that was most pressing to him: "How many years of life do I need to recover from my liver injury?"
[Not much, just ten years!]
"ten years?!"
Ryosuke's voice suddenly rose: "Say that again, you fucking idiot?!"
[Yes, dear host, ten years of lifespan can completely cure your stubborn ailment, giving you a brand new, healthy, and vibrant liver!]
"Ten years...heh...ten years!"
Ryosuke felt a surge of anger rush to the top of his head, and he felt like his lungs were about to explode.
"I risked my life, almost killed myself, and only managed to get a Hand Ghost and a year's worth of power! And you're talking about ten years?! I still need to upgrade my skills!"
"Do you think I'm some kind of beast of burden?! Or do you think those evil spirits are like leeks growing in the ground, ready to be harvested at any time?!"
[Host, don't get too excited~ High investment brings high returns~]
Just think about it, a healthy body allows you to unleash the full power of Thunder Breathing, slaying more and stronger demons, and your lifespan will naturally increase!
The system is patient and encouraging.
"Fuck you! Ten years, my ass! I only have one year left! One year!!"
Ryosuke's temples throbbed with veins. "According to your calculations, I'd have to kill at least ten Hand Ghost level demons!"
"Damn it! I'm definitely the most miserable transmigrator with a system!"
"Other systems either give out generous newbie gift packs, offer prize draws, or provide daily sign-in rewards..."
"And you're something else! I start with a terminal illness, and you make me spend my life paying exorbitant prices for treatment, all while you're all all smiles and laughter! I'll laugh my ass off!"
[Host, please remain calm. Getting emotional will accelerate your lifespan loss!]
The system provides a helpful reminder.
"roll!!!"
Ryosuke cursed angrily and started running.
Unfortunately, skill upgrades have to be put on hold for now; the important thing is to rest my liver (internal energy) for the time being.
After a night of rapid travel, the eastern sky began to lighten with the first hint of dawn.
We've arrived at Sunrise Mountain!
Ryosuke breathed a sigh of relief and decided to explore the mountains first.
But in front of a temple, Ryosuke stopped in his tracks.
He smelled an extremely strong stench of blood!
Ryosuke's pupils constricted sharply, and his heart sank to the bottom.
Scattered memories of "Sunrise Mountain Temple" flashed through his mind.
That future pillar who will stand firm like a mountain, battling demons with his bare body!
The Island of Lamentation is now in the Dark!
His tragedy seems to have begun right here!
Ryosuke suddenly burst in.
The first rays of dawn barely illuminated this hell on earth.
Broken prayer flags, scattered toys, overturned food containers... silently tell the story of what happened last night.
Blood flowed like a river inside the room, and the bodies of seven or eight children were torn to pieces.
A burly man knelt on the ground, covered in blood, mechanically pounding the demon beneath him with his fists.
Even though the demon's head had been smashed to pieces and its body had turned to ashes in the sunlight, the blind monk continued to move as if he felt no pain.
Not far behind the blind monk, a little girl was huddled up, shivering.
After the evil spirits completely dissipated, Himejima groped his way toward Sayo, seemingly wanting to confirm her safety and seek some comfort and reassurance.
