Chapter 742 The End of the Devil
Chapter 742 The End of the Devil
Peter initially intended to settle scores with Strange, but when he and Ironfist arrived at the Limbo through the portal of the Sanctum Sanctorum (ordinary mages cannot reach the Limbo with a slingshot), they saw Iliana carrying her Soul Sword, chasing Strange and hacking at him everywhere.
Ordinary weapons posed no real danger to the Sorcerer Supreme, but that sword was different; it attacked the soul directly. Given that Strange was in the wrong, he could only run around aimlessly.
Peter then looked at the other members of the Midnight Sons. Putting aside where the demon version of Iliana was, Velasco was bound and gagged here. He never dreamed that Sithon was the key to Strange's plan, so much so that when Sithon was banished, he didn't know what to do for a moment.
Even more terrifying things were yet to come. Just when he had decided to do whatever it took to survive, he discovered that the Blinking Realm had already responded to his request to Sithon to exchange his soul for magical energy—it was forbidden!
So Velasco was captured.
"It seems the Sorcerer Supreme isn't all that righteous. Such a dangerous plan, and he didn't tell you at all. Even if he didn't tell you, wasn't the risk great enough? You might be able to accept your own deaths, but one wrong move and your world would be finished. How could someone like that become the Sorcerer Supreme?"
Velasco was still babbling on, but Strange silenced him with a single spell, appearing before him in a tattered cloak and covered in wounds: "Your master has abandoned you, Velasco. Without your source of magic, without Sithon, without Limbo, what do you have left?"
Velasco's only remaining source of spellcasting power was the Burning Life and the four Bloodstones. Strange was certain that no matter how loyal Velasco was to Sithon, he was a man who valued his life more, so he would definitely burn the four Bloodstones to complete the final spell.
Whether he used up the Bloodstones to cast a spell or Strange obtained the four Bloodstones, the outcome was one that Strange himself would have liked. Strange's question was essentially forcing Velasco to make a decision.
But Velasco just looked at Strange with amusement. Strange was about to say something when he was struck hard on the head, followed by the Midnight Children's gleeful laughter. Strange sighed helplessly; Iliana had at least used the blade of her greatsword to hit him on the head, rather than actually slashing him.
Just then, Peter and Iron Fist walked over and saw Iliana, who was panting heavily. Peter approached her and asked, "How much has Strange been hiding from you?"
"How much? Let me put it this way, he didn't say anything except that I'm going to be torn apart again. I thought he had everything arranged. But as you saw, he almost killed us all. No wonder he insisted that I couldn't let go of control over the border of hell. It turns out that another me could take this job, and she probably wouldn't help."
Iliana grew increasingly enraged as she spoke. As the Sorcerer Supreme of the Frontier, she could clearly feel the process of another version of herself taking away a portion of her control, as well as the immense power of Chthon outside. In that instant, Iliana distinctly felt the fate of everyone, even their entire universe, resting on her shoulders. If she relaxed even slightly, giving Chthon an opportunity, the entire world could be destroyed.
And Strange hadn't mentioned anything about it at all, so all the pressure suddenly fell on Iliana, and she wasn't even prepared.
Thinking of this, Iliana picked up her greatsword again and swung it at Strange's head. This time, Strange had already cast a shield spell, so any attack would only affect his protective field.
Then, Blade himself added, "It's like this, a large group of undead suddenly appeared, which startled us. We were almost instantly engaged in battle with these 'reinforcements,' and Velasco nearly escaped. We couldn't even tell whether you cast the spell or Velasco did. Your plan was truly flawless, mage."
Finally, of course, there's Peter: "And about the Spider Gods, you didn't tell me anything about that either. I really thought I was important enough to be the key to dealing with Sithon, but it turns out I'm just a summoner."
After listening to everyone's complaints, Strange finally spoke up to explain.
"That's because I wasn't sure if you would accept this plan if I told you in advance. In fact, I think you would definitely refuse if I told you all the details of the plan. But you're likely to overlook the benefit—an opportunity to make a multiverse-level dimensional demon completely abandon our world."
Strange was talking about the benefits when Elsa raised her hand and shot him. Strange managed to block it, and then for some reason, laughter and cheers came from the Midnight Children as everyone started beating Strange.
Strange had both a shield and thick skin, and he managed to stop them both.
"Alright, alright, I know you all have a lot of opinions about me, about the whole operation, but let's deal with more important things first, okay?" Strange, finally getting annoyed, looked at Velasco to the side: "We still have a devil to deal with, thanks."
Then, Strange turned to look at Velasco, staring at him in confusion. Theoretically, Velasco should have four more Bloodstones as casting materials. Where are the Bloodstones?
"What are you waiting for, mage? My bloodstone? Ah, I gave my bloodstone away long ago. Someone will always complete my great work in my place. Xisorn will eventually come."
Strange then retorted, "Who? Mephisto?"
"Don't waste your energy, why don't you just kill me instead? Huh?"
Iliana was quite interested and went up to make a move, but Strange stopped her: "Although Sithon has given up on him, if you really kill Velasco, his soul will still belong to Sithon. As long as he is willing to serve Sithon, he may be resurrected."
So Iliana sheathed her sword: "So what do you plan to do?"
"I plan to send him to Vishanti."
"What?! You can't..."
Strange waved his hand, sending Velasco away, then let out a long sigh of relief. Finally, things were over.
