Chapter 14 Divination Club
Chapter 14 Divination Club
A few days later, seeing that there was still no movement, Lorne grew bolder and decided to go out for a walk.
"A fortune-telling club? I didn't expect Tingen to have a place like this." Lorne looked at the sign in front of him.
This was a place recommended to him by the hotel receptionist, and he chatted with her about divination.
Unexpectedly, the receptionist was also very interested in this topic, chatted with him for a long time, and even enthusiastically recommended this fortune-telling club to him.
"Trust me, the fortune tellers inside are all very skilled; you definitely won't be disappointed."
Recalling what the receptionist had said, Lorne pushed open the door to his room at the club.
The club is on the second floor, and a beautiful lady is in charge of reception.
The woman, with her brown hair styled in a bun, glanced at Lorne and smiled, saying, "Sir, would you like a fortune telling, or would you like to join our club?"
"Join?" Lorne asked, somewhat puzzled.
The woman with her brown hair piled high said familiarly, "That's right, join us and become a member of the club."
"What are the conditions?"
"Fill in the details and pay the annual membership fee. The first time is £5, and then £1 per year thereafter."
"Unlike those political or business clubs that require recommendations from formal members to join, our membership requirements are very lenient."
Can I just get in by paying? But the £5 annual fee is a bit expensive! And I'm just here to escape... cough... travel, I won't be staying in this city for too long.
Lorne wasn't interested in joining, but he still wanted to know about the club's membership benefits, so he asked, "What kind of benefits are there for members?"
"Of course, members can use our meeting rooms and all the divination rooms."
"You can also enjoy our coffee and tea for free."
"All the newspapers and magazines in our club are free to read."
"You can also purchase various divination tools and materials at cost price. In addition, we invite a famous diviner to give lectures and answer your questions every month."
"Most importantly, you can find a group of friends who share the same interests."
That sounds good, I'm even a little tempted, but I don't have any money... Lorne was a little embarrassed, and then asked, "What if it's just a fortune telling?"
The beautiful lady showed no impatience and maintained a polite smile, saying, "The price is not fixed. Our members are free to perform divination for their clients, and the price is determined by them. We only take a certain percentage of the fee."
"You can take a look at this booklet. It has introductions and prices for members who are willing to do fortune telling," she said, handing Lorne a booklet.
She then invited Lorne to sit on the sofa in the reception room and began introducing the current members of the club, pointing to the brochure.
Hainas Vansent, a renowned fortune teller in Tingen and a resident instructor at the club, is skilled in various methods of divination, charging 4 soules per session.
John Richard, an experienced fortune teller, is a long-time member of the club and charges 2 sous per session.
……
...
The lady in charge of reception introduced several fortune tellers, ranging from experienced to novice, with prices ranging from 4 sous to a few pence.
"How about we try the cheapest one?" Lorne, who was short on cash, didn't want to spend too much money.
"No, this concerns my life and fortune. Cheap fortune tellers aren't enough. If the divination is inaccurate and I believe it, wouldn't that cause a huge problem?" Lorne, who had originally planned to choose the cheapest fortune teller, changed his mind.
"Let's just splurge and go for the most expensive one, let's try it this once." Lorne gritted his teeth and made his choice.
"I want Mr. Vancent to do my divination."
"Okay, please follow me." The beautiful woman stood up and led Lorne through the door next to the reception room.
There was a short corridor, and the room at the very end seemed to be a conference room, from which came the sound of turning pages and the faint aroma of coffee.
After walking a few steps, the lady in charge of reception gestured for Lorne to stop, then quickly stepped forward and softly called out, "Mr. Vancent, someone wants to have their fortune told."
"Okay, I'll be right there," came a middle-aged man's voice.
"Is it still the amethyst room?"
"Um."
Lorne was then taken to the so-called Amethyst Room, where he met a middle-aged man dressed in a black classical robe, who gave off a mysterious and serious impression.
"Hello, I am Haynes Vancent."
Lorne greeted him and then made his request.
"Here's the thing, I'd like to have my fortune told to see if I'll be in any danger soon."
"Could you be more specific? What aspect exactly?" Hainas asked.
"Um... well, I accidentally offended someone, which is why I came to Tingen. I want to ask if I will face retaliation later." Lorne decided to tell part of the truth, knowing that only in this way would the divination be more accurate.
"Okay, I understand. What kind of divination method do you want?"
"Dream divination," Lorne said, having always been curious about what dream divination actually was.
"Could you give me your date of birth?"
After a moment's thought, Lorne gave the original owner's birth date.
Hainas nodded and said, "Could you please excuse us? Dream divination is best used when one is alone in a room."
"Ah, well... alright." Lorne didn't say anything more and turned to leave the room.
There's nothing we can do; he just doesn't understand.
A few minutes later, he heard Hainas calling him, so he went back into the amethyst room and saw Hainas Vancent, who looked unwell.
"I'm sorry, sir, there seems to be a problem with the dream interpretation. Could you please try a different method?"
"Well... then I'd like a tarot reading." Lorne chose the divination method he was more familiar with.
Haynes pushed the neatly stacked tarot cards on the black table toward Lorne: "Think carefully about what happened and the question you want answered, then shuffle and cut the deck."
After recalling the cards in his mind, Lorne took the tarot cards, shuffled them, and cut them.
After the action was completed, Hainasen on the other side said, "Wait a moment and randomly draw two cards. The first card represents the current state of the event, and the second card represents the final outcome of the event."
As he spoke, he spread out a whole deck of cards on the table.
Lorne gently picked out two cards as instructed.
Hainas flipped over the first tarot card, "The Devil," which was upright.
Lorne was startled by the card; even someone who knew nothing about cards would know that it was not a good omen.
Then Haynes revealed another card.
Lorne leaned closer and saw that it was a reversed Tarot card, "The Fool".
