Chapter 156 Night of Shock
Chapter 156 Night of Shock
The gunshots echoing in the alley sounded like a large firecracker exploding inside a steel pipe, completely different from the sound effects in movies and TV shows.
Everyone present, except for the man and woman with the gun, was stunned by what they saw.
For most people in this country, they have only seen scenes of shooting people in movies and TV shows, and their first experience with such a scene is bound to be shocking.
Because of his older brother, Wei Hongsi had a lot of contact with criminal police officers, but he rarely heard of them firing their guns during missions, and he had never seen it with his own eyes.
The man who fired the shot stepped forward a few paces and raised his left hand to chop the leader's neck.
Before the leader could even scream after being shot, his body went limp and he collapsed to the ground.
The man flicked his foot, sending the dagger in the leader's hand flying into the corner.
His movements were extremely swift, yet he held the gun very steadily, his eyes fixed on the other four men.
After dealing with the ringleader, he said again, "Don't move!"
The other four were instantly petrified, and no matter how awkward their current posture was, they dared not move an inch.
The man held a gun in his right hand and pointed his left finger at the nearest person: "You!"
The person being addressed trembled involuntarily. The man then said, "Slowly put down what you're holding. Good. Raise both hands above your head, turn to the left, and stand facing the wall."
The man then gave the same order to the other three, and soon the four of them stood in a row facing the wall, about a meter apart from each other.
After the man had taken control of the situation, he still pointed his gun at the four men and said with his back to Wei Hongsi, "Teacher Wei, you can come down now."
When Wei Hongsi heard the man address him that way, he knew that the man was most likely from the special task force. But the man's decisiveness in firing the gun was very different from his older brother's; he was probably not an ordinary criminal police officer.
He waved to Xia Shiyu behind him, and the two walked a few meters away from the person who had been knocked down. They grabbed the top of the wall with both hands, slowly lowered their center of gravity, and then jumped down after their arms were fully extended.
Another woman with a gun stood there and said, "You can wait here for a while."
Wei Hongsi and Xia Shiyu stood still and did not move or talk to the two men.
A few minutes later, a lot of people walked in from the alley entrance, including uniformed police officers and medical staff carrying stretchers.
The person who had fallen to the ground was placed on a stretcher and carried away. The four people standing facing the wall were handcuffed, and the net masks covering their heads were removed.
Previously, due to the dim lighting, Wei Hongsi hadn't had time to look closely, but now he realized that these people were all disguised.
"Are you alright?" Zhang Shengyong asked as he walked over.
Wei Hongsi turned around and realized that he had also come over. He said, "You're not injured, but what happened?"
Zhang Shengyong said, "I'm not entirely sure either. If you want to know the situation, come with me to the headquarters and wait for news. If you want to rest, wait until the danger is confirmed to be over, then I'll take you back."
Wei Hongsi said, "Does it really need to be delivered for such a short distance?"
Zhang Shengyong countered, "What if another group of people were lying in wait for you?"
Wei Hongsi felt that the probability was really low, but it would be more reassuring to find out the truth.
"Then let's go to the headquarters." He said, looking at Xia Shiyu, who nodded.
So the two followed Zhang Shengyong out of the alley and got into his car.
On the way, Wei Hongsi summoned the "system" and checked it; nothing had changed from before. He thought to himself, "System, oh system, your risk warning is completely useless against threats to personal safety. You're not even as alert as Xia."
Upon arriving at the Municipal Criminal Investigation Corps, Zhang Shengyong led the two to a questioning room, told them to rest there, and then went to attend to his work.
The two sat down and started talking about what had just happened. Wei Hongsi asked curiously, "How did you find out that someone was following us?"
Xia Shiyu said somewhat embarrassedly, "When I was in junior high school, I was immature and often got into fights. I both blocked others and was blocked by others. Over time, I became more sensitive to people around me who had ill intentions."
Wei Hongsi was both surprised and amused: "You must have been in quite a few fights."
"Yeah." Xia Shiyu sighed softly. "I was really rebellious when I was in junior high. My dad was too busy with work to take care of me, and my mom couldn't control me either. Starting from the second semester of junior high, I hardly ever went to class and just messed around all day. If it weren't for the fact that my family was relatively well-off, I almost got expelled several times."
Wei Hongsi asked, "So you suddenly realized something later?"
Xia Shiyu said, "Once I got into a fight with someone from another school, which made quite a commotion, and the police came to our house. My mom didn't dare tell my dad, and it took a lot of effort to get rid of the negative impact. Actually, the fight never actually happened; she was afraid that I would lose my eligibility to take the high school entrance exam."
"I have a younger sister who is six years younger than me. After that matter was resolved, she came to my room and said to me in a serious tone that I always made my father angry and my mother sad, and that she would punish me when she grew up because she looked down on me."
"It was then that I realized how much of a failure I was. Even a little girl who was not even ten years old looked down on me, and she was my own sister whom I had never doted on."
"Then I thought, what should I do to change her opinion of me? After thinking it over, I felt that getting into high school on my own merit should be a good short-term goal. That way, my dad wouldn't be angry, my mom wouldn't be sad, and if that little girl dared to look down on me again, I would spank her."
"There was still a month left before the high school entrance exam, so I picked up my textbooks again and started learning from scratch. Luckily, the junior high school curriculum wasn't difficult, otherwise I would have failed in my first goal."
As he said this, a smile unconsciously appeared on Xia Shiyu's lips.
Wei Hongsi smiled and nodded, feeling fortunate for Xia Shiyu.
In terms of preparing for the high school entrance exam, with proper planning, achieving a score above 95% within a month might be a bit difficult, but getting above 90% shouldn't be too hard. Judging from Xia Shiyu's physical abilities, he should be able to get full marks in physical education.
Wei Hongsi said, "I've always wanted to make something that I call a 'risk prevention device,' and I think it can incorporate your experience as well."
"A risk mitigation device?" Xia Shiyu asked curiously. "What experience did I have?"
"You can think of it as a dashcam used by pedestrians, mainly to identify potential hazards in the surrounding environment," Wei Hongsi explained. "For example, if we were being followed by someone with malicious intent, that would be a hazard."
"You mean, turn my experience in identifying malicious actors into an algorithm?"
"That's right!"
Xia Shiyu found Wei Hongsi's idea interesting, but also somewhat puzzled: "Brother Hongsi, what made you want to make this?"
Wei Hongsi said with a smile, "The initial idea was to prevent staged accidents."
