Chapter 117 Sect
Chapter 117 Sect
During the four-person card game, Wu Jie and Dai Mengqi arrived one after the other.
After watching them play cards for a while, Dai Mengqi asked doubtfully, "Is this something you guys are having fun playing?"
"That's interesting!" Feng Weixu nodded. "I predicted the ocean's prediction, and it predicted my prediction. What a fun puzzle game!"
Jiang Haiyang said, "Stop bragging. It was my prediction that you predicted my prediction."
"Boring!" Dai Mengqi completely disagreed.
Jiang Haiyang said to Feng Weixu, "You should hurry up and leave after you finish this round."
Feng Weixu glanced at him sideways: "Why should I?"
Zhao Hongquan also said, "Yes, we'll switch players after this round."
Feng Weixu asked, puzzled, "I didn't make a mistake!"
Wei Hongsi said, "Let Wu Jie play a couple of rounds too."
"Alright then." Seeing that everyone else was saying the same thing, Feng Weixu didn't insist anymore.
After the hand ended, Feng Weixu gave his position to Wu Jie.
Dai Mengqi watched for a while, then, finding it uninteresting, pulled Feng Weixu outside to buy some drinks and fruit for everyone.
Seeing the two leave, Zhao Hongquan said, "My boss and I have been abroad for almost a month, and these two haven't made a move yet?"
Jiang Haiyang laughed and said, "Who knows? I don't know if Lao Feng is really stupid or pretending. Maybe he's afraid of scaring Dai Mengqi."
"Sigh, those two idiots." Zhao Hongquan sighed, then looked across at the other side and said, "Adding Wu Jie makes it three."
"What did I do now?" Wu Jie asked, his face full of questions.
Zhao Hongquan rolled his eyes at him: "That day, Hongsi was talking to everyone in the group about dream interpretation. In the end, Feng Weixu said he would treat everyone to a late-night snack. Apart from Dai Mengqi saying she would go, no one else said anything. Only you joined in the fun."
Wu Jie was immediately embarrassed and explained, "I had just come from the lab and didn't understand the situation."
The four of them played cards and chatted for almost an hour before Feng Weixu and Dai Mengqi returned with a large amount of fruit, snacks, drinks, and other items.
Not long after, Zhou Qihong, Liu Guanhong, and Gu Shiming arrived together, and the group stopped playing cards.
Several people present had never seen Gu Shiming before, so Liu Guanhong introduced him to them. Upon hearing that he was the senior disciple of their sect, Jiang Haiyang, Wu Jie, and the others stepped forward to greet him, and the initial awkwardness disappeared.
After exchanging pleasantries, Zhou Qihong called Wei Hongsi over to talk with Gu Shiming. Seeing this, the others refrained from disturbing him and chatted amongst themselves on the other side.
"I heard from Shi Ming about your performance since you started working. It seems you've adapted very well, exceeding my expectations." Zhou Qihong said, pointing at the two of them with his hand. "In this respect, you two are quite similar."
"I'm sorry to have worried you, teacher. With my senior brother's help and General Manager Dai's support at the company, everything is going smoothly," Wei Hongsi said sincerely.
"After working for a while, you've become more humble," Zhou Qihong laughed. "That's because you have to be capable yourself for them to take care of you."
"If I weren't capable, I wouldn't have become your student," Wei Hongsi said with a smile.
Zhou Qihong couldn't help but laugh even more heartily. These words were, of course, a compliment, but they also carried a hint of reserved pride.
After laughing, he said, "I often tell you that those who do cutting-edge scientific and technological research must not be out of touch with the times. This applies not only to theoretical aspects but also to applied aspects, especially for our discipline. The school established the 'School of Cognitive Science and Engineering' with this in mind. When Shi Ming was studying, this school didn't even exist yet."
Gu Shiming nodded slightly.
Zhou Qihong added, "Even so, it's difficult to guarantee that teaching can keep up with the pace of industry development. Some of the textbooks the college uses now were written by me seven or eight years ago, and some are even ten years old. A lot of the content in the textbooks is already far behind the current era."
"There are some technological applications that can probably only be seen in school labs, not because they are advanced, but because they are outdated. Just like the intelligent systems you work with, they have long abandoned those technologies."
"But we can't blame the schools. If they teach students content that hasn't been tested in practice or knowledge that isn't fully developed in theory, it will mislead them, because many students don't have the ability to discern right from wrong when they're learning."
"Therefore, I hope to promote the application of technology by cooperating with R&D companies or institutions, while also cultivating talent. This is the purpose of my cooperation with Mr. Dai."
Zhou Qihong paused for a moment and then said, "General Manager Dai naturally has his own considerations, but the direction of cooperation is in line with mine. I have discussed this matter with the school leaders, and the framework has now been finalized."
"Dai and I will take the lead, responsible for setting the direction, setting the stage, and providing resources. Each side will appoint one principal and one secondary person in charge. On the school side, it will be our college's vice dean and your senior sister Guan Hong. On the Zhiwei side, it will be Shi Ming and your general manager Ji. They will be mainly responsible for overall management. The specific project leaders will be determined based on the specific circumstances of the project."
"The project that's been confirmed now is the 'psychological virus' prevention you mentioned yesterday. I have no objection to Zhiwei putting you in charge of it, and Weixu and the others can help you with that too. However, your boss, Mr. Dai, has some other considerations. We'll decide on the specifics after you hear Shiming's explanation later."
Wei Hongsi nodded silently.
He understood his teacher's meaning: the collaboration wasn't focused on one or a few projects, but rather on establishing a framework within which suitable projects could be included. The project he was responsible for was just one of many; there would be many more projects combining research and application in the future.
Zhou Qihong added, "I won't interfere with how Zhiwei arranges things for you, but I have my requirements for you."
Wei Hongsi said, "Please go on, teacher."
Zhou Qihong said, "Didn't you take the entrance exam? You've already studied halfway through, so you have to finish what you started. I don't require you to attend classes; I can put in a good word with the instructors for you. But you must take the final exam. The graduation requirements are the same as Wei Xu's and the others: publish a paper as the first author in 'Cognition' or a journal of similar level, and that will qualify you."
Wei Hongsi nodded and replied, "Okay."
Zhou Qihong said, "Within this framework of school-enterprise cooperation, Zhiwei also has a need to cultivate talent. However, it may be difficult for those who are already working to pass the exam."
Seeing the questioning look from the teacher, Gu Shiming said, "There are still some people who can pass the exam, it just depends on whether they have the will to do so. But I estimate that the number won't be too many."
Zhou Qihong nodded, then asked Wei Hongsi, "Do you have any candidates for off-campus mentors?"
Wei Hongsi looked at Gu Shiming.
Gu Shiming waved his hand and said, "Don't look at me, I'm your senior brother, don't make things complicated."
Zhou Qihong said, "Let Boss Dai be your off-campus tutor, it's really a bargain for him."
