Ying felt her scalp tingling from being stared at, and mentally cursed her four incompetent teammates eight hundred times over.
She rubbed her temples and turned to Qingyu: "Give me the sign."
The next half hour was arguably the most difficult negotiation in Teyvat history:
Ying held up the sign and danced with joy;
The four members of Qingyu cooperated by taking off their masks and showing "friendly" smiles (which made Amber shrink back in fright).
Paimon floated in the air as a simultaneous interpreter;
Zhang Chu had to restrain Amber, who was trying to escape, three times;
Erkang even pulled out a photo album to prove they had been to other worlds (but Amber was even more frightened after seeing the embarrassing photos of Tvalin).
"So...you really are humans from another world?"
Amber shrank back beside the tree roots, still somewhat doubtful.
"It's just that the soul is attached to a Hilichurl?"
The four of them nodded in unison, and Gu Qian added, "We can't even speak Qiuqiu language."
The first thing he said was a standard "Yaya ika!" (Hello!)
fluorescent:"......"
Amber: "......"
In the end, Zhang Chu took out a pen and paper, wrote down a line of text, and had Ying read it aloud: "We can help clear up the Wind Demon Dragon crisis."
This finally made Amber reluctantly agree.
"It would have been better if we had done this earlier!"
Enraged, Ying kicked Qingyu in the knee.
"Hiss—!"
Qingyu cooperated by letting out a scream.
Then Ying hugged her foot and jumped up on one leg, yelling, "Awooooo!"
She forgot that her power was sealed, and this kick was no different from kicking a steel plate.
Paimon quickly helped her up: "Traveler, are you alright?!"
Amber, watching this scene, suddenly burst out laughing.
The tense atmosphere finally eased, and she rubbed her reddened wrist, muttering under her breath, "What Abyss cadre would be stupid enough to kick a steel plate..."
Chapter 9 Lord Barbatos! ~☆
The air seemed to freeze at the gates of Mondstadt.
The seven-meter-tall King Guqian of Thunder trembled slightly with every step he took. Behind him, in a giant bamboo basket with the words "West Wind Knight Express" written on it, Yura and others were stacked together in various bizarre poses. One knight was even posed as "The Thinker".
"The Abyss Order has begun attacking Mondstadt?!"
The guards on the city gate even changed their voices.
He thinks this way because Hilichurls would never attack a city; after all, they just want to live and aren't some kind of murderous monster, unless they are controlled by the Cult of the Abyss.
Kaeya's eyes widened more than ever before: "Wait... why is Amber grooming a Hilichurl thug?!"
Indeed, Amber was standing on tiptoe, grooming Zhang Chu's fur, looking just like an owner stroking a large dog.
Paimon sneezed while floating in the air: "Luminous, do we really look like good people?"
Ying looked at the increasing number of crossbows guarding the city gate, then turned to look at the knights arranged like works of art in the bamboo baskets...
"..."
This isn't some traveler visiting the city; it's clearly the ultimate villain coming to challenge us with their loot!
At this point, Mondstadt was in complete chaos:
"Close the city gates immediately!"
"No! Amber and the guerrilla squad are still outside!"
"That white floating object must be a new weapon from the Abyss!"
Did it just sneeze?
Amber, on the other hand, is quite carefree; she now completely trusts these "Hilichurls"—after all, what villain would:
Cover the unconscious Yura with a small blanket printed with "Holding a grudge +1".
Adjusting the knights' sleeping positions for a more comfortable experience.
Mora was stuffed into everyone's pockets as compensation.
"Everyone, don't panic!"
Amber waved her hands, "They're really good... uh..."
She suddenly stopped, because Er Kang was using an air pump to inflate an unconscious knight—the poor knight was swollen like a balloon.
"stop it!"
Ying kicked the air pump away with a flying kick.
Paimon floated to the city gate and shouted, "We're really not bad people! Paimon is emergency rations, not weapons! Bah! Paimon isn't emergency rations!"
After three seconds of silence on the city wall, a unified shout suddenly rang out:
"The Hilichurls have started eating people!!"
Wendy, hiding behind a tree, was laughing so hard she was practically pounding the ground: "I can't take it anymore... these strangers are hilarious..."
"It's over, this is completely impossible to explain now!"
Looking at the more than thirty crossbows erected on the city wall, Ying covered her forehead in despair.
She suddenly had a flash of inspiration—since they couldn't communicate verbally, they would prove it with their actions!
Hey! You four!
She pointed at the group of four, "Prove you're not ordinary Hilichurls with your outrageous abilities!"
The four looked at each other in bewilderment. Zhang Chu suddenly pulled out a drawing, and the other three leaned over to take a look:
[Giant, 30-meter-tall, painted Barbatos figure]
(Note: Features dynamic breathing light and voice function)
Qingyu's brush paused in mid-air: "This...isn't this a bit inappropriate?"
Erkang had already pulled out his carving knife: "What's there to be afraid of! Anyway, that drunken poet isn't really going to bring down divine punishment!"
Gu Qian silently conjured up a "Under Construction" sign and stuck it in the ground.
Ten minutes later, an art storm swept through Mondstadt.
Amidst the clanging and banging of construction noise, the four-person team demonstrated breathtaking operations:
Qingyu uses a brush to draw lines that are even more lifelike than real people.
Erkang's carving knife danced with afterimages, even recreating the ahoge (cowlick) on the statue in a 1:1 scale.
Gu Qian was in charge of coloring, and the skin tones he mixed put professional painters to shame.
Zhang Chu was installing the voice-generating device: "Hmm... I need to record this line, 'Let's get down to business, Barbatos'..."
Once the last part was assembled, the four men stepped back in unison.
As the dust that had enveloped the construction site dissipated, a lifelike, pure white statue of Wendy in divine attire stood out prominently!
Mondstadt instantly crashed.
The knights on the city wall all had nosebleeds.
"Lord Barbatos...so that's who I was..."
"That waistline..."
"AWSL!!"
Kaiya's one eye was wide open, and he didn't even notice that the grape juice in his hand had spilled all over him.
Amber's bunny ears have been transformed into a rocket shape, and her face is so red it could fry an egg.
The most amazing thing is the expression on the statue—a shy look with a slight tilt of the head, delicate pinky fingers that seem to both refuse and welcome, and that recurring phrase:
"Hehe~☆"
The real Wendy on the church roof fell down.
Ying at this moment: "......"
She finally understood why Tvalin had escaped so quickly.
Paimon had already hidden behind her: "Traveler...should we start preparing to run away?"
Suddenly, the statue's breathing light began to flash, and the holographic projection function installed by Zhang Chu automatically activated—the statue slowly raised its arm and gave a perfect wink:
"Want to hear the new work of Mondstadt's finest bard?"
"Thump, thump!"
The second wave of Mondstadt players collapsed, clutching their hearts.
The real Wendy was already digging a hole in the ground, preparing to bury herself.
The Mondstadt residents were now completely convinced that the four were no ordinary Hilichurls—after all, no Hilichurl could create such a work of art that would kill a shrine.
The church issued a statement overnight claiming it was a "heretic statue."
The Knights confiscated the idol and had four men help place it in the plaza.
From then on, Mondstadt had a new rule: all forms of life-size Barbatos figurines were prohibited.
Watching the four being chased, Ying silently prioritized "finding translation tools" as her top priority.
