Chapter 402: Finding Something to Do
Chapter 402: Finding Something to Do
After what happened last night, Vera Xavier was sure she would never dare drag him into playing cards again. ’This guy’s way of teaching someone a lesson is simply unbelievable!’
She silently lowered her head, deciding not to look at that freak, Nathaniel Nathan. ’Anyone who ends up with him would be miserably tormented!’
’I’m truly exhausted, body and soul!’
Nathaniel Nathan chuckled softly. "Want to go downstairs for breakfast now?"
"No!" Vera Xavier refused immediately. "I want to sleep!"
Nathaniel Nathan raised an eyebrow. "Fair enough. You were up all night, so you should get some proper rest. I’m heading out for a bit to take care of something."
Vera Xavier didn’t answer him. She just dove under the covers and pretended to be asleep. He was privately amused by her almost childish antics but didn’t call her out on it. He simply grabbed his jacket and left.
The weather in Yulara was like spring year-round. Due to its high-plateau geography, there was a significant temperature drop between day and night. So even though it was July, it was a little chilly outside.
As Nathaniel Nathan left the room, he ran into Aaron Cheney and Jack Judd, who were also up for breakfast. Not seeing Vera Xavier, Aaron Cheney casually asked, "Where’s Vera?"
"Still sleeping," Nathaniel Nathan replied.
Before Aaron Cheney could even react, Jack Judd was already giving Nathaniel Nathan a thumbs-up. "Boss, you’re incredible! Going at it with Vera all night, and you still have this much energy! I’m seriously impressed!"
Nathaniel Nathan glanced over and saw him wiggling his eyebrows suggestively. He immediately understood the insinuation. Shooting Jack a sidelong glance, Nathaniel said, "Since you’re so idle, perhaps I should find something for you to do."
Jack Judd froze for a second, then hurriedly said, "Boss, just tell me what you need! I’ll give it my all!"
Nathaniel Nathan said nonchalantly, "Last night you told me the local gang leader was a tough nut to crack. Take me to him."
Jack Judd let out a "Huh?" not understanding what Nathaniel Nathan meant. But then he heard Nathaniel say with perfect composure, "It’s been a while since I’ve dispensed some public justice. This is a good opportunity to stretch my legs."
Jack Judd’s eyes lit up at his words. He immediately led Nathaniel Nathan to find the local gang leader. The same leader who had been so intractable yesterday was now getting beaten so badly by Nathaniel that he was spitting teeth.
Nathaniel then proceeded to beat the other defiant thugs into submission, after which he had Jack Judd assign them a task.
After all this was done, Jack Judd swallowed hard and said, his face filled with admiration, "Boss, you’re just incredible!"
Nathaniel Nathan remained silent. He had always been fiercely protective of his own. Given his status, there were certain things he couldn’t do personally last night, but that didn’t mean Jack Judd couldn’t. ’Susan Caldwell bullied Vera like that yesterday. How could a few slaps possibly settle the score?’
’Anyone who bullied his woman would be made to wish they were never born.’
’He had shown Rona Langdon and Cara Preston mercy before, but only because they were Vera’s relatives. This Susan Caldwell, however, was not.’
After making these arrangements, Nathaniel had Jack Judd place an anonymous call to the municipal police bureau, reporting that someone was in Trellis committing fraud by impersonating the daughter of a Ministry of Commerce official.
Once that was done, he took Jack Judd and Aaron Cheney out for breakfast. Afterward, he got some famous local snacks to-go to bring upstairs. However, on the stairwell landing, he ran into Alistair Forrest and his entourage.
Alistair Forrest whistled at Nathaniel Nathan, but Nathaniel ignored him completely, walking up the stairs with a cold expression as if they were total strangers.
