Chapter 1707 - 1708: Whispered Words on the Phone
Cheng Su and her family moved to a new house. Her in-laws came and now there is a place for them to stay. Since Qi Taiguo is not around, Mother Cheng vacated her usual room to let them use it, and squeezed into a bed with Cheng Su and her son.
Upon returning home, Mother Qi was eager to play with Qi Xiaoqi. However, when Qi Xiaoqi was younger, he didn’t want her to hold him. Now that he’s grown, even though Qi Xiaoqi didn’t cry when Mother Qi held him, he kept twisting his body, indicating he didn’t want her to hold him, with his tiny hands reaching out toward Cheng Su.
Feeling somewhat hurt, Mother Qi decided to stay for a few more days this time to strengthen her emotional bond with her grandson.
Tonight, Cheng Su had two glasses of wine at a banquet. As she thought about Deng Weiqiu and their pairing, lying in bed, she couldn’t help but miss Qi Taiguo a little.
Beside her, Mother Cheng and her son were already asleep. Cheng Su lay on her side, reflecting on Qi Taiguo, and suddenly tears started flowing.
At the same time, the phone rang outside in the living room.
Cheng Su was momentarily stunned. She switched on the light; it was already midnight. Who would be calling at such a late hour?
"Was that the phone ringing?" her mother stirred beside her.
Cheng Su replied, "Mom, you go back to sleep; I’ll go answer it." Saying this, she grabbed a coat and went out of the room.
The phone continued ringing. The light in Father Qi’s room was also on. Cheng Su hurriedly picked up the phone to answer, glancing at the door crack to see the light was turned off again before saying hello.
"Did I wake you?"
The voice on the phone made Cheng Su pause, and then she felt delighted, saying, "Why are you calling at this hour? Did something happen?"
It’s already past midnight, why call home now?
Qi Taiguo said, "Yes, something happened."
"What happened?" Cheng Su became tense.
"I fell ill."
"What?" Cheng Su’s voice raised, her heart also tightening: "How are you sick? What kind of sickness?"
Qi Taiguo’s laughter came through the phone, saying, "I got lovesick, I missed you, so I came to the office to call you!"
Cheng Su’s heart relaxed and she teased, "You’re annoying! You scared me to death."
Qi Taiguo continued laughing and asked, "I really miss you, do you miss me?"
Cheng Su nestled on the sofa, wrapped in her coat, holding a pillow, softly saying, "Yes, I was just thinking of you, so much so that I cried."
"Really? No wonder it started raining over here; turns out it was because you cried. Silly girl, why shed tears if you miss me?" Qi Taiguo said, "Don’t cry, it makes me sad."
Cheng Su felt sweet, like she had drunk honey, saying, "Well, you’ve only been gone for a while, yet you already sound like honey was poured into your mouth. Who taught you that?"
"I’m so smart, there’s no need to learn from anyone. It’s natural to me."
"You’re so vain!" Cheng Su giggled, biting her lip lightly, saying, "Did you really miss me?"
"If I didn’t miss you, why would I call at this hour when you ought to be asleep?"
"I couldn’t fall asleep; I was missing you. By the way, my parents came today; Weiqiu got married, we had a feast, and the groom is Li Guoliang from the cafeteria. He asked me to send his regards to you..." Cheng Su held the phone gently and started chatting with him.
The two of them spoke from missing each other to talking about family and then about their son, until the phone grew hot. Only then did Qi Taiguo urge her to go to sleep, saying it was already one o’clock.
Cheng Su began to feel sleepy, and the two of them said goodnight sweetly, exchanging a kiss over the phone, then hung up and went to sleep.
In the dream, Qi Taiguo walked towards her, and Cheng Su’s mouth couldn’t help but curve into a smile.
