Chapter 165: Potential Super Rival?
Chapter 165: Potential Super Rival?
"Fuck you! Die bitch!"
I reached out my hand and blocked the metal pole that was swung at me with my arm, the pole smacking against my arm with a metallic clang before the thug stumbled back.
He looked down at the pole that was now bent backwards at where it had struck me and I was still perfectly fine.
I went up to him and gave him a forehead flick, my finger smacking against his head with a loud bang and causing the guy to fly off and smash into the wall of the alley.
I looked at the side where Sergei was using his shadows to wrap a few of the thugs in front of him and throw them on the ground to subdue them.
A yell came from behind me and I spun around to give a snap kick into the air, dispersing a ball of fire that was shot at me with the bottom of my foot.
The guy with the pyro powers tried to shoot another fire ball at me and I dispersed it with a punch of my fist, the wall of air that I launched blasting the fire apart.
I punched one more time to launch another wall of air that slammed into him, knocking him off his feet and slamming into the wall behind as well.
He slumped to the ground, joining the rest of the thugs I had knocked out in unconscious bliss.
I stepped over the unconscious bodies of the thugs and went over to Sergei who had just finished knocking out the thugs he had captured.
"Nice," I complimented.
He gave me a nod, "I would say the same, but I suppose this was expected of someone like you, Mortal God."
I grinned, "Well, nothing I can say to that. I can see that you are pretty experienced in this."
He shrugged, pulling the thugs he knocked out to the side, "I have been doing this for a long while after all. Even before I was your Guardian."
"So back when you were still working as a contract killer then?"
"Yes. Outside of my work, I would also go out as a vigilante and clean up the streets back home. I’ve dealt with plenty of low lifes like these."
He reached out his hand and picked up a few of the other unconscious thugs with his shadow tendrils to pull them to join the pile.
I helped out by summoning my extra arms and lifting the rest of them to dump them in the same pile, already making sure there was no one around to witness this beforehand.
"Do you want to call it in, or shall I?" I asked.
He nodded at me, "Go ahead, I don’t really care about making a name for myself."
I shrugged and pulled out my phone to start dialing for the police.
I’m using a burner phone of course, which I’m using exclusively to call in these crimes so that they can’t trace it back to me.
I cleared my throat as the call connected, changing my voice before speaking to the dispatch officer.
"Hello, I’m here to report a crime."
"Ah... You’re that vigilante aren’t you? Fine... Where is this?"
"Teck Lim road, the small alley way that connects to Jiak Chuan road."
"A patrol car will be there shortly. I don’t suppose I can convince you to stay there until they arrive?"
"Not a chance. Thanks, bye~"
I hung up the call before nodding at Sergei, "We should get out of here before--"
"What do we have here?!"
Both of us looked up to see a guy wearing a white spandex suit floating down towards us, the letters ’RV’ emblazoned clearly on his chest.
RV man...
Oh gods... Not this guy... I thought he only worked in the daytime? Since when does he work at night?
He floated down to land in front of us, his hands on his waist with his chest thrusting out proudly.
"What have you done to these people here?" He demanded.
I sighed and gestured at the thugs, "They’re gangsters that we subdued. They were planning to raid a shop down the road when we found them and took them out."
He raised an eyebrow, "So you’re vigilantes?"
"Of course."
He crossed his arms, "Huh... And why are you playing around as Vigis then?"
"We just want to help protect the city and make it a safer place for everyone."
"In that case, why not just register as a hero? Looking at this, both of you certainly have the talent for it. Isn’t it better than just being a Vigi?"
I shook my head, "We’d rather not be tied down by government entities and have to answer to an organisation about what we can and cannot do."
"That’s illegal, you know? That also makes you guys criminals. I’m afraid I’ll have to bring you two in as well."
I pointed at the thugs, "How about you just focus your attention on dealing with these thugs that we subdued and bring them to the police and just pretend we were never here?"
"I’m afraid I can’t do that. Now I suggest that you surrender quietly so that I don’t need to use force."
Ugh... This is why I don’t like the hero types...
I let out a sigh, "Ah... Well... I suppose I have no cho-- Woah!! What’s that behind you?!!"
He turned around to look and I grabbed Sergei’s hand before leaping up into the sky, clearing over the roof of the building to land on top of it.
Both of us then started running away, trying to get away from him as fast as we could.
Unfortunately, he realised my trick quickly and flew up into the air to chase after us.
"Stop right there! Do not resist!" He commanded from behind.
"Split up, we’ll meet back at the place we teleported out of," I told Sergei.
He gave me a nod and we ran off in different directions.
I chose to jump towards a cluster of buildings while Sergei leapt down into another alley.
The guy decided to chase after me and I heard the sound of him boosting his speed after me.
I jumped down into another alley as well, hoping to lose him between the buildings but he was faster than I thought.
I landed on the ground right as he landed in front of me, with his arms crossed in front of his chest.
"You really think you can outrun me? Just give up. Don’t make this harder than it has to be. At most, they will just book you and send you back on your way. There’s no need to worry."
I scowled at him from under my hood, "That’s exactly what I don’t want. Why do you think I’m hiding my face? I don’t want people to know who I am."
"Hmph... Then you should have thought about that before you decided to become a Vigi. Just give up."
"I don’t think so."
He floated up into the air and raised his fist, "Then you give me no choice."
The superhero punched down towards me, clearly expecting to knock me out with that punch.
I raised my own fist and punched at him, both our fists colliding in the air.
I wasn’t really sure how strong he was so I didn’t use all my strength, only using about half of my strength.
He turned out to be stronger than I thought as I ended up getting pushed back from the punch.
I suppose that was a good thing since it would definitely make me stand out if he found out that this vigilante he found was stronger than he was. Although I’m pretty sure he was also holding back his strength for that punch as well.
Seemingly satisfied that he won that small bout of strength, he flexed his arms threateningly.
"Last warning. I’m not going to hold back for the next one."
I made a show of shaking my fist like that punch hurt me before I settled down into a combat stance, making it look like I intended to fight him.
He sighed, "I warned you..."
He floated up into the air and readied himself for another punch at me.
But before he could dive down towards me, I summoned a shadow tendril from the wall beside him and gave him a slap across the face.
That obviously did not hurt him but it did surprise him enough that he looked away from me to see what had hit him.
While he was distracted, I quickly jumped up and gave him a punch across his face.
The impact sent him flying up into the air and while he was far away from me, I created a door below me and let myself fall through it, teleporting back to the agreed meeting spot with Sergei before dematerialising the door.
Sorry RV man... Seems like you’re not getting me this time~
...
No, please don’t make me your rival or something...
