Chapter 8 The Terrible Adam
Chapter 8 The Terrible Adam
"I think whether someone is a good friend has nothing to do with their strength or weakness, and..." Rosen didn't tolerate the bratty kid at all, and said with a smile, "It's still better than you not having any friends at all, isn't it?"
Amon was taken aback. The mischievous kid didn't care whether he had friends or not, but since ancient times, people have been more concerned about inequality than scarcity. He had no friends, while Rosen had a new friend, which made Amon feel somewhat unbalanced and inferior.
I need a new friend too… Ammon thought to himself, his gaze involuntarily turning to the fourth person present, Adam, who was usually invisible to the naked eye. Before Adam could speak, he heard Rosen say:
"Adam is our shared brother; you wouldn't be using him as a substitute for a friend, would you?"
Amon: ...
Amon gritted his teeth, then suddenly seemed to remember something, a smirk playing on his lips as he looked at Rosen and said, "Of course I'll have new friends, new friends who are stronger and better than yours."
"I'm looking forward to it." Rosen smiled back, this time not purely as a provocation, but genuinely hoping that Amon could do something.
The sun god now clearly intends to isolate him from the other angel kings, and Rosen himself cannot do anything at this juncture, so of course he can only send the sun god's favorite cub to do this.
So go ahead, Amon, I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of friend you'll bring back... Rosen thought to himself, then noticed Zhou Mingrui looking at him with a truly indescribable expression, and couldn't help but look over innocently: "What's wrong?"
"...It's nothing." Zhou Mingrui shook his head. He couldn't very well say directly, "Brother, you're really a bit childish." He could only secretly wonder if being transmigrated into a cub would really cause a regression in one's mental age.
"They're just so childish, I hope you don't find it funny." A slightly childish voice rang out from the side. Adam, who had appeared next to Rosen at some point, looked at the cotton doll with his golden eyes and said with a gentle smile, "Hello, I'm Adam, Rosen's older brother."
"Hello, Adam..." Zhou Mingrui almost blurted out "kid," but thankfully he swallowed it back in time. He looked at Adam, who was not much older than Rosen but was unusually calm, and then glanced at his friend who was competing with Amon. He sincerely felt the difference between people.
"I didn't expect Rosen to make a new friend so quickly, especially in... this way. Are you an Extraordinary being of the Extraordinary Path?" Adam asked, feigning curiosity, but his eyes held a well-disguised probing.
In this world, extraordinary individuals with heterogeneous pathways can possess a doll with their own will.
What is a heterologous pathway?
Having only heard Rosen's general introduction to the world view, but still not understanding what the 22 divine paths were, Zhou Mingrui was stunned for half a second before smiling and shaking his head, saying, "Sorry, I promised Rosen I would keep it a secret."
"I apologize for my intrusion. I hope you don't mind." Adam didn't seem disappointed; instead, he gave a slightly apologetic smile.
"It's alright." Zhou Mingrui also gave an impeccable smile. After chatting for a few more minutes, Zhou Mingrui found an excuse to end the conversation and then poked Rosen with his soft, cotton-like arm.
This brought Rosen, who was exchanging barbs with Amon, back to his senses, and he asked, "What's wrong, Klein?"
"Didn't you say you were going to show me around here?" Zhou Mingrui blinked, stating a fact that hadn't actually happened.
Rosen raised an eyebrow, glanced at Adam who was smiling beside him, and said, "Sorry, I almost forgot."
Rosen then looked at Adam and said, "Brother, I'll show my friend around the house. You take good care of Amon."
Before Adam could respond, Rosen and Zhou Mingrui disappeared in a flash.
Adam watched them leave before his smile faded and his brow furrowed slightly.
"What, you also think that guy named Klein is suspicious?" Amon's voice suddenly rang out. The divine child, who had lost the argument and was extremely angry, looked at his brother and smiled, saying:
"However, I suggest you don't meddle in this matter. Rosen obviously doesn't want you to interfere in his affairs, so just let him be. Anyway, it won't be you or me who suffers."
"...Amon, that's our brother." Adam was clearly exasperated by Amon's "who cares if he dies" attitude.
"...Heh." Amon chuckled coldly, neither confirming nor denying. He suddenly raised his hand and pushed up his monocle, saying, "Whatever, I'm going to find my new friend anyway."
"Saslir said we'd better not leave the palace unnecessarily," Adam said, his eyes showing disapproval.
"So I didn't just leave randomly. I left to find new friends, how can that be considered leaving randomly?" Amon said, clearly not caring what Adam thought, and then disappeared down the corridor, presumably to find new friends.
Seeing this, Adam couldn't help but raise his hand and press his temples. As the elder brother, he should take care of his two younger brothers, but in reality, both Amon and Rosen were really difficult to deal with.
Perhaps in a few years, when the eldest son of God has fully matured, he will be able to suppress his two younger brothers, but clearly, he cannot suppress them now.
……
"You don't like Adam?" After leaving Adam's sight, Rosen slowed down, took the cotton doll off his shoulder, placed it on his forearm, and asked curiously.
"Your brother... is a bit scary." Zhou Mingrui's expression was somewhat indescribable. He touched his non-existent goosebumps and said:
"I don't know why, but when I talk to Him, I always feel like He can see right through me, and several times I almost told the truth."
"That's normal, after all, he's just an audience member." Rosen wasn't surprised by this. Although he had been arguing with Amon earlier, he hadn't been completely oblivious to Zhou Mingrui's situation, and naturally knew that Adam was consciously trying to get information out of Zhou.
Of course, Adam didn't actually use his extraordinary abilities, otherwise, as an ordinary person, Xiao Zhou obviously wouldn't have been able to withstand it.
"The audience?" Zhou Mingrui paused for a moment, then, as if remembering something, tentatively asked, "Is it similar to some kind of alien pathway?"
"You're quite clever, Zhou." Rosen smiled and, without keeping anyone in suspense, gave a concise introduction to the extraordinary path of this world.
There are 22 divine paths in this world, which are the only relatively safe ways for mortals to acquire extraordinary abilities. Although the word "safe" should be put in quotes, the extraordinary paths are indeed safer than praying to the Outer Gods for power.
The Otherworldly Path and the Audience are undoubtedly two of the twenty-two paths to divinity. The Otherworldly Path, as its name suggests, allows mortals who enter this path to gain inhuman power as they advance, such as becoming werewolves or vengeful spirits.
The audience approach doesn't involve the same direct violence as the alien species. In the early stages, it focuses on the psychological and mental aspects, emphasizing the ability to subtly change others' thoughts. However, it becomes more dangerous later on, not only increasing in physical strength but also maintaining its psychological threat level. Furthermore, it possesses the cheating ability to turn fantasy into reality.
