Chapter 101 Dealing with the Basilisk, Listen to Hagrid's Account
"Basilisk—" Hagrid suddenly froze, or rather, he paused, and after finishing the rock-skin cake in his mouth, he slowly said, "Professor Hamilton, you're actually interested in the basilisk."
He muttered to himself, "This is a very dangerous creature."
"Ah—is that so?" Loira pursed her lips a little awkwardly. Actually, I'm carrying one with me right now.
"But it is true, it's difficult to deal with the basilisk using spells." Hagrid nodded in agreement with Loira's statement, or rather, Newt's statement.
"Then—what should we do?"
"Chicken!" Luna suddenly spoke up, tilting her head as she said, "Dad said snakes are afraid of chickens!"
"Haha." Roy chuckled. Miss Lovegood had no idea how big the basilisk was. How could such a huge creature be afraid of a tiny chicken?
"Is there any other way—any other way?" She pinned her hopes on Hagrid.
She then saw Hagrid's expression of agreement: "That's right, chickens can deal with basilisks."
what?
Are we talking about different kinds of chicken? Or do we mean that British chickens and German chickens refer to different species?
Loira was momentarily speechless, already embarrassed enough by her mistake about Newt's book—and if the chickens from the two countries really were different…
"The basilisk will die when it hears a chicken crow," Hagrid said to himself, unaware of Loira's thoughts. "So using a chicken to deal with the basilisk is the best way."
"Then—is there any requirement for the breed of chicken?" Loira asked softly after thinking for a moment. She couldn't believe that ordinary chickens could cause any harm to the basilisk. "It seems not," Hagrid shook his head. "Chickens raised at Hogwarts are fine."
"If any basilisk were to appear, the Hogwarts chickens could handle it with ease," he said, scratching his beard. "You can go and see for yourselves if you're interested."
"Those are my chickens."
"Let's just forget about it," Loira shook her head, declining Hagrid's offer. She was still skeptical of what Hagrid and Miss Lovegood had said.
After all, chickens and such—
"Besides, if it's Parsleyan, it can also control the Basilisk," Hagrid added after a moment's thought. "The Basilisk only obeys Parsleyan commands."
Snake voice?
Roy pursed his lips, a little surprised.
In other words, if I learn Parseltongue, can I control the Basilisk?
Isn't that kind of cool?!
You have a snake as a pet—ah, it seems like such a big pet isn't something you'd normally show off, and you blinded it yourself—will it listen to you?
After careful consideration, Loira felt it was best not to have too high hopes, which also made her abandon the idea of simply finding a chicken to try her luck for a while.
What if it really gets killed by the rooster's crow? Wouldn't I lose a potential pet? Snakes are really great pets; they can't talk, they can't talk, and they can't even speak.
"Its only advantage seems to be that it can't speak," Luna remarked casually. "That basilisk is so easily manipulated. What if two people both spoke Parsleyan? Would it faint?"
"No, that's not it." Hagrid shrugged. "Basilisks usually have masters, and they tend to listen to their masters. As for Parseltongue, that's just a way to communicate with Basilisks."
"Whether the basilisk can be tamed depends on the wizard's ability," he said, glancing at Roy. "If it were Professor Hamilton, he should be able to."
"Don't say that all of a sudden!" Loira quickly waved her hand. "I don't have any basilisks, and I've never heard of any."
this thing.
Besides, I'm not exactly a powerful wizard, so taming a snake monster is something I can only dream about for now.
Seeing Roy's somewhat uneasy expression, Hagrid chuckled and said, "But you don't need to worry, Professor Hamilton—Hogwarts doesn't have a basilisk—if it did, Aragog would have been long ago—"
"Bang bang bang! Hagrid, are you there?" Suddenly, a knocking sound rang out, causing Roy to instinctively shrink back.
Who is it?
"Ah, it's Harry and the others." Hagrid recognized who it was and slowly got up and walked towards the door.
Hey! Wait a minute, Hagrid! I'm not ready yet! And weren't we talking about the Basilisk?!
Roy hastily put on his hood and mask just before Hagrid opened the door.
"Ah, good afternoon, Hagrid!" The first person to walk in was Harry, who nodded happily to Hagrid and then paused for a moment.
"Good afternoon, Professor Hamilton and—Miss Lovegood?" He seemed a little surprised that the two of them would be in Hagrid's house at the same time.
Not only him, but Ron and Hermione, who were following behind him, were also stunned.
Wait—Miss Granger is here too! Loira immediately stiffened when she saw Hermione appear. She hadn't forgotten how Hermione had asked her for advice a few days ago.
I don't want to answer questions! Besides, there are even more people now than before!
Seeing this, Roy quickly got up, nodded to Hagrid, and left through the back door of the house without even having a chance to say goodbye to Luna.
"Ah, Professor Hamilton?" Hagrid watched her leave and instinctively tried to call out to her, but upon hearing his voice, Roy ran even faster.
"Professor Hamilton, what is this?" The trio exchanged glances, wondering what Loira was thinking.
Only Luna nodded slightly and said, "Professor Hamilton is probably going to brew a potion."
"I've heard that some potions have time requirements for brewing."
Her explanation made Harry, Ron, and Hagrid all nod, especially Hagrid, who muttered, "I see."
This drew a glance from Luna, though her somewhat dazed expression betrayed no hint of her thoughts.
Only Hermione frowned slightly, pursed her lips, and said, "The potion you made at noon?"
"I don't think I've seen it before—"
"Not all potions are listed in the books, are they?" Luna said softly, picking up a piece of rock cake from the table. "Thank you for your hospitality, Mr. Hagrid."
"I'm leaving too." With that, she smiled gently at Harry and Ron, then skipped away.
In the blink of an eye, only the trio and Hagrid remained in Hagrid's cabin.
"What's Professor Hamilton here for?" Harry asked curiously, sitting down in the chair Rhoy had just sat in. He whispered, "Is he here to discuss some kind of magic with you?"
"Could it be a magical artifact?" Hermione said, slowly sitting down as well. "Like that headband."
"I think she's just here for snacks—" Ron muttered, but he quickly shook his head when he saw the rock cake.
Hagrid chuckled after hearing their speculation and said, "Haha, we didn't say anything."
"We were just talking about the basilisk, nothing serious! This isn't something students should know."
Roy, hurrying along the road, had no idea that Hagrid, the big mouth, had completely proven her guess right—
If she knew, she would probably just put a gag on Hagrid, right?
