Chapter 13 Ancient Monsters
Chapter 13 Ancient Monsters
The next morning, the expeditionary force assembled at the city gate.
Lynn silently counted in his mind, and there were more than fifty people.
Leo rode a white horse at the very front.
Ellie followed behind the horse, eating dust, but wore a silly, proud smile.
Lynn and Kraft mingled at the back of the group, chatting as they walked.
"I have a bad feeling."
Kraft suddenly said.
"Don't worry, no matter what happens, I think you can take it down with one punch."
Lynn laughed.
With ancient heroes by his side, even Mahat would have to take a detour.
After walking for about three hours, the terrain gradually rose, and the surrounding vegetation became sparse. An ancient stone gate was half-hidden among the piles of rocks.
The door was engraved with intricate runes, exuding an ominous aura.
"This is it."
Leo dismounted, drew his twin swords, and shouted, "Everyone, stay close to me! Let's go!"
"Rush!"
The crowd cheered and surged through the stone gate.
Kraft stopped at the doorway, touched the carvings on the stone door, and said with a solemn expression, "This is an ancient seal, which has been violently destroyed. The creature inside has probably been starving for a long time."
"It's a pity that some people didn't do their research properly before rushing to deliver food."
Lynn replied expressionlessly and followed.
Upon entering the ruins, the path was relatively smooth, except for the occasional encounter with a bull-headed gargoyle with bat wings.
After a short while of in-depth study.
"what!"
Suddenly, a scream came from ahead.
Then came the sound of bones cracking, followed by the muffled sound of liquid splashing onto the stone wall.
"What happened?"
"What's that! What's up there!"
The crowd stirred.
"Don't panic!"
Leo raised his longsword high, his voice trembling slightly, "Maintain formation! Vanguard! Where is the vanguard?!"
call--
A gust of cold wind blew by, and all the torches were extinguished instantly.
In the darkness, a pair of red eyes lit up.
With the help of the light magic stone on Leo's sword, everyone finally saw the monster's true form.
It was a giant spider.
The upper body is that of a seductive woman, while the lower body is that of a spider covered in bristles.
"Knesos! The ancient monster recorded in the ancient books! I never thought it actually existed!"
Someone recognized the monster.
"Run! Run!"
I don't know who shouted.
The crowd erupted in chaos, scrambling to run back.
Leo ran the fastest, even pushing over people blocking his way, and scrambled towards the exit.
"Lord Leo?"
Ellie stared blankly at the retreating figure, her idol instantly crumbling.
"hiss--"
Knesos let out a screech, and several white spider silks shot out, instantly sticking to a few unlucky ones who were slow to run.
Then, with a sudden pull, the screams abruptly ceased.
Then, its gaze locked onto Ellie, who was standing frozen in place.
Fresh and tender prey.
It raised one of its sharp forelegs and suddenly stabbed it towards Ellie's heart.
Ellie wanted to run, wanted to draw her sword, but was too afraid to take a step.
This thing is much more intimidating than the Red Mirror Dragon!
"It's over..."
Alli closed her eyes in despair.
clang!
Suddenly, a crisp sound rang out as metal clashed.
Instead of the expected excruciating pain, a powerful gust of air rushed towards me.
Ellie opened her eyes shakily, and a familiar figure was blocking her way.
It's Lynn.
Lynn held his sword with both hands, steadily blocking the giant spider leg.
"Lin...Lin En?"
Ellie's mind went blank, and her teeth chattered.
"Don't space out."
Lynn didn't even turn his head. "Step back."
Ellie immediately retreated.
"I never expected to see such a monster."
Kraft emerged from the shadows, cracking his knuckles. "Lynn, is this thing mine or yours?"
"Half for each of us."
Lynn flicked his wrist, and two silver lights burst forth in the darkness.
puff!
Arachne's two forelegs were severed at the root, and green blood gushed out.
"ah!!!"
The half-human, half-spider monster let out a piercing scream, its massive body losing its balance and tilting to one side.
Before it could react, Kraft had already jumped onto its back.
He raised his hand and punched the monster's spine.
boom!
The ground collapsed, and Arachne's massive body was slammed into the ground.
"knock off."
Lynn sheathed his sword.
The whole process took less than ten seconds.
Immediately afterward, Lynn turned and walked up to Ellie, looking at the terrified girl, and held out his hand, asking, "Can you still walk?"
Ellie looked at the hand, sniffed, and placed her hand on it.
"able!"
She responded and then used the support to stand up, wiping away the tears from the corners of her eyes.
"I knew it!"
Suddenly, Ellie shouted, "I knew I was right! You really are very strong warriors!"
Upon hearing this, Lynn and Kraft exchanged a glance and couldn't help but laugh.
This girl is recovering quite quickly.
"Let's go back," Lynn said.
The three walked out of the ruins.
The sunlight was a bit too bright.
Leo and the surviving adventurers were still gathered at the entrance, all covered in dust and dirt.
"Lynn, that move was so cool! Teach me!"
"I won't teach."
"You cheapskate! Then I'll teach you my ultimate move!"
"Not interested."
"Uncle Kraft! That punch you just threw was pretty powerful too!"
"Call me Big Brother."
The three walked through the crowd without looking to either side.
……
In the 29th year of the Xin Dynasty, Lynn and his two companions arrived in Tull Town.
The streets were deserted, with most of the shops on both sides closed, except for a few blacksmith shops that were still steaming.
Ellie buried her face in her scarf, leaving only her eyes showing, and complained indistinctly, "Why is this place colder than our village? Where's the promised barbecue? All I smell is horse manure."
"In such important border towns, supplies are prioritized for the military; it's a blessing if civilians can even fill their stomachs."
Kraft walked ahead, his monk's robes billowing in the wind.
Just then, a noisy argument broke out at the intersection ahead.
"How many times have I said it! Supplies must be prioritized for the frontline expeditionary force!"
A deep, resonant roar startled the passersby on the roadside, who all turned to look.
Lynn looked up at the sound and saw several soldiers in heavy armor surrounding a man who looked like a caravan manager.
The person in the lead was particularly conspicuous.
With messy silver hair, a hideous scar across his face, and slanted eyes that looked more frightening than a monster when he glared at someone.
"Wow!"
Allie shrank behind Lynn, peeking out half her head. "This is definitely a villain!"
Lynn narrowed his eyes: "That's the captain of the Northern Magic Team, a level two... no, a level one mage, Viabel."
"ha?"
Ellie's eyes widened. "The captain of the magic team? Shouldn't someone who looks like a bandit leader?"
Over there, the "bandit leader" seemed to have noticed the gaze from this side and immediately turned his head away.
A fierce gaze pierced through her, making Ellie shrink back in fright.
Viabelu told his men, "It's up to you now," and then walked over.
"Oh, it's been a long time. Wasn't the last time we met at the Magic Association in the Magic City?"
Viabel greeted Lynn, "I still vividly remember your battle with your clone in the Tomb of the Fallen Kings."
"Haha, I've heard a lot about your warlike reputation, Viabelu."
Lynn also praised it.
"But speaking of which, weren't you with Frillie and the others?"
"They were going to a different place than me, so we split up along the way."
Lynn explained, "By the way, what are you doing here?"
"A demon general has appeared in Casey Village and destroyed many villages. We came here as soon as we received the commission."
Viaberu rubbed his forehead, saying with a headache.
"Viabel, it's time for us to set off."
Just then, a girl with short flaxen hair walked over. She was wearing a light mage's robe and round-framed glasses, and looked very quiet and gentle.
When Lynn heard the voice, he thought it was Ailu, but when he saw the person, he was quite surprised to find out it wasn't her.
After all, he still thought highly of Viabell and Ellu as a couple.
"Nero, you and your men wait for me up ahead. I'll be right there."
After Viabel finished speaking, he glanced at Ellie behind Lynn and asked, "Huh? Is this little girl your sister?"
Ellie, who couldn't stand being called a "little girl," jumped out from behind Lynn and pointed at Viabel's nose, "What 'little girl'! This captain is Ellie, the hero who scared off the Red Mirror Dragon! You fierce-looking old man, don't underestimate me!"
"Scare away the Red Mirror Dragon? Ha!"
Viabel paused for a moment, then chuckled, "Little brat, you're quite the braggart."
"You! Fine..."
Ellie pouted, looking aggrieved.
"Alright."
Lynn pressed down on Ellie's head, suppressing her, and then looked at Viabel, "If there really is a demon general in Casey Village, you alone will not be able to deal with him."
Viabel's smile faded, and he said seriously, "We don't have any more first-level mages available right now, and my main purpose is to go there to investigate. If I can't win, I'll run away."
"How much do you know about this demon general?"
Lynn asked.
"The intelligence says its name is Thousand-Gun Retoas."
Viaberudo.
Nero, standing nearby, added, "He's said to be a master of spear magic who has already slaughtered several villages."
"That's really troublesome."
Lynn stroked his chin, recalling that there was no such character in the original work.
"It's getting late, I'll be going now, goodbye."
After saying that, Viabel waved his hand and left with Nero and a group of soldiers.
"Goodbye!"
Lynn waved goodbye.
Kraft watched Viabel's departing figure and gave a fair assessment: "A good soldier. That kind of bloody smell can only come from someone who has crawled out of a pile of dead bodies."
"Let's find a hotel first."
Lynn looked away.
