Chapter 21 The Amazing Weapon Room
Chapter 21 The Amazing Weapon Room
After carefully attaching the "Armor Room" sign, which was meticulously written on cardboard and pasted on the selected security door, Xu Mo breathed a sigh of relief.
He felt he should still try to find him some weapons or armor, even though things had been peaceful these past few days. But if the zombies really did reappear, he couldn't just rely on a cleaver, could he?
Moreover, if he used a cleaver to chop zombies, would he still use it to cut vegetables? Thinking of this, Xu Mo frowned and chose to refuse.
Although the security door in front of him was ordinary, Xu Mo thought that some private equipment warehouses might use such markings, so he decided to try his luck.
He even emptied his backpack beforehand, imagining that behind the door might be a gun rack full of standard weapons, or an armory displaying gleaming cold weapons.
Over the next forty-eight hours, this anticipation transformed into extra motivation for his training. While practicing stance training, Xu Mo imagined himself wielding a sharp blade, slashing like the wind. Even when practicing the basic moves of the bone-chopping knife, he took on the intention of warming up for the new weapon he was about to acquire.
The countdown has finally reached zero.
Xu Mo took a deep breath and stood in front of the security door marked "Armor Room," his eyes gleaming with determination.
"Open the door!"
As the soft light shifted, the scene behind the door changed rapidly.
The expected cold, metallic sheen did not appear; instead, there was an ambiguous, pinkish-purple light, and the air was filled with a peculiar smell that was a mixture of cheap perfume and rubber.
Xu Mo's expectant expression froze instantly, then turned to astonishment, and finally transformed into an indescribable sense of absurdity.
What came into his view was not an armory at all.
This is clearly a fairly large warehouse for adult products!
Looking around, rows of shelves were neatly arranged with silicone products of all shapes, sizes, and colors that were astonishing. Their bold designs and straightforward uses made Xu Mo, a veteran of modern society, blush with embarrassment. On the walls hung some so-called "clothing" made of leather and lace, with very little fabric, accompanied by chains and whips. These items could barely be considered weapons.
But then I thought about using this thing to whip zombies?
"Ugh~"
Xu Mo didn't even dare to think any further.
Looking around, I saw various models of electric toys, with striking images on the packaging.
"What... what kind of weapons room is this?!" Xu Mo almost choked, feeling like he'd been thoroughly tricked by those damned rules. Undeterred, he approached the shelves, picked up a few boxes, and examined them closely, only to find that these electric toys were completely useless decorations because they didn't come with batteries.
Xu Mo tossed the items back onto the shelf, both amused and exasperated, his mind filled with a desire to complain: "Does the rule mean these things can be used as 'weapons'? In a physical sense? Or in a psychological sense?"
Reluctantly rummaging through the warehouse, Xu Mo hoped to find something "normal." Perhaps there were some security batons piled up in a corner? Or knives used for packaging? But he was quickly disappointed. The warehouse was "extremely" professional; as far as the eye could see, there were only "professional tools" for that industry, nothing else.
More than forty seconds have passed.
Xu Mo was completely disheartened and prepared to leave empty-handed. This trip had been a waste, and he had even squandered a chance to open the door. He shook his head in annoyance and turned to walk towards the portal.
As he passed through the innermost corner of the warehouse, he accidentally kicked a half-open cardboard box. He glanced at it instinctively and saw that it didn't seem to contain silicone products, but rather small plastic bottles.
He stopped, bent down, and picked up a bottle. There were no explicit pictures on the bottle, only some foreign language markings and a prominent drug name—"What...Nalifine."
Xu Mo was stunned for a moment, then realized what this was, and his lips twitched violently.
"Blue pills... well, in a way, these things could be considered a kind of... 'weapon'?" His sense of absurdity reached its peak. These things, in certain specific situations, might indeed be considered "weapons"?
Xu Mo glanced at the box containing about a dozen bottles of medicine. He initially intended to ignore it, but a thought suddenly flashed through his mind—in the apocalypse, the monetary system had collapsed, and barter was the norm. These items might be priceless treasures to some, possessing immense "trading value."
Just because he doesn't need it now doesn't mean he won't meet someone who will need it in the future.
"I can't really go back empty-handed." Xu Mo sighed, and with the mindset of "a thief never leaves empty-handed"... no, it was "maximizing the use of resources," he carried the entire half-box of "something-no-fungal" up, which was quite heavy.
In the final seconds, Xu Mo, clutching this unexpected "trophy," stepped out of the portal.
Back in the post-apocalyptic stairwell, looking at the box of things at his feet, Xu Mo's feelings were extremely complicated. The divine weapons he had envisioned had turned into these junk, leaving him with a sense of powerlessness, like punching cotton.
He carried the box of medicine back to his residence and stuffed it into the corner.
"It seems the definition of 'weapon' is much broader than I imagined." Xu Mo chuckled self-deprecatingly, picked up the simple, unadorned cleaver again, walked to the center of the room, and continued practicing his slashing.
The cold blade sliced through the air with a steady whistling sound.
This failed exploration also made Xu Mo realize that the way he "understood" the rules seemed to have a strange sense of humor, or rather, it was based on a broader "concept" mapping that he had not yet fully understood.
After the training session ended, night had fallen. In the dim light, Xu Mo did not rest, but instead took out his tools for making markings again. This time, he chose a larger piece of cardboard.
"Warehouse..." he murmured to himself, his eyes gleaming with contemplation. If a place could be called a warehouse, the things stored inside must be of a certain scale. Whether it was food, tools, or other supplies, it would mean a rich harvest for him.
He carefully wrote two large characters on the cardboard—"Warehouse." The handwriting wasn't exactly beautiful, but it was clear and eye-catching enough.
Holding the newly made sign, he arrived at the security door that had previously been labeled "Armor Room." Looking at the "Armor Room" sign still stuck to the door, he hesitated for a moment, then simply tore it off without damaging it.
"The door opening is random. Who knows where the door labeled 'Armor Room' will open to next?" Last time it was probably just a low-probability event.
After carefully putting away the "Armor Room" sign, Xu Mo found the most conspicuous spot on the smooth door panel and neatly pasted the brand-new "Warehouse" sign on it.
On the dark security door, there was only this one eye-catching sign, clearly conveying Xu Mo's intention.
Having done all this, he took two steps back, examining the seemingly "purposeful" security door, a smile involuntarily creeping onto his lips. The feeling was strange, like playing a highly free sandbox game, exploring the rules of the world in his own way.
"Anyway, we don't lack medicine and food right now, so there's no harm in trying a few more times," Xu Mo thought with a relaxed attitude. If he failed, it would just be a waste of an opening opportunity, which he could afford to wait for; but if he succeeded, it might open a door to a new world of resources.
He didn't know what he would see when he opened the door next time—a huge space piled high with boxes? Or a logistics transit station filled with shelves? The unknown itself was full of allure. And Xu Mo, who had the capital to try and fail, was enjoying it at the moment.
