Chapter 14 Tactical Dogs
Chapter 14 Tactical Dogs
"Our two squads withstood several waves of zombie attacks. Every day, we actively explored and collected resources in the surrounding area, setting up lines of defense and traps, and the situation seemed to be getting better and better."
One night, the zombies became even more numerous and their aggression was extremely high, with a zombie king commanding the horde from behind.
After we cleared out half of the ordinary zombies, the zombie king, hiding in the horde of mutated zombies, charged forward, scratching several people before being killed by a heavy machine gun.
The squad leaders, who had been scratched, attached bayonets and rushed out, attracting some of the zombies away. However, the remaining number was still too large, and the entire line collapsed completely after a short time.
The squad leaders knocked me unconscious and threw me into the car. When I woke up, there was nothing else moving in the warehouse except me…
The remaining writing had been blurred by water, making it impossible to read what it said.
Lorraine flipped through the entire notebook and found a completely different font on the last page:
"I am the commander of the escort team, and I know very well that we are not able to evacuate. Those who come after, please make good use of these devices."
Among the equipment we were transporting was a small machining center with 3D printing capabilities, which could manufacture most items.
The other vehicle contained prototypes of two types of tactical dogs: one smaller, a reconnaissance tactical dog; and one larger, a battlefield support tactical dog.
The instruction manuals for all the devices are included in one tablet.
Good luck to you, and may civilization endure.
After reading it, Lorraine and Ouyang Nian bowed deeply to the soldiers.
Lorraine said, "We still have some time to spare. Let's check if the truck can start, and then find an ammunition box and carve 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier' on it as a sign of respect."
After a series of checks, both trucks started smoothly with sufficient fuel, but the brake discs were somewhat rusted.
Then, the two found a fairly sturdy ammunition box lid, engraved some words on it, and placed it next to the soldier.
Lorraine and Ouyang Nian cleared some of the cover at the warehouse entrance, then started the truck and left the warehouse, heading straight for the eastern storage area.
Through the vehicle's intercom system, Luo Lin said to Ouyang Nian, "When we arrive at our destination, don't turn off the engine. I'll go find some usable materials. You'll be in charge of guarding the area and also check which carriage has enough space left."
"No problem," Ouyang Nian's voice came through the walkie-talkie.
With a slightly screech of brakes, two trucks came to a stop at the loading dock in the warehouse area. Two people sat inside, the window rolled down a crack, listening intently for any sounds of zombies howling.
After waiting for a few minutes and finding nothing amiss, the two began to act according to their pre-arranged plan.
Wearing night vision goggles, Lorraine rushed into the dimly lit warehouse. Fortunately, not far from the unloading area were neatly arranged piles of various materials and transport vehicles.
After checking the area to ensure its safety, Lorraine reached out and touched the steel. A vibration followed, and he began loading the steel onto the cart.
After moving enough steel, Lorraine pushed the cart toward the loading dock.
Seeing that Ouyang Nian had already opened the cargo container, Luo Lin pushed the cart onto it. Looking at the huge machining center inside, he clicked his tongue and said, "Sure enough, this 'small' is relative to other industrial equipment."
Ouyang Nian, who was helping to secure the cart, rolled his eyes and said, "Go see what other materials we can get. There's still some space left in the cargo box containing the mechanical dog. Although these things aren't afraid of bumps and knocks, to prevent any accidents, let's pack some lighter materials."
Lorraine said "Understood," then turned and ran back to the warehouse, heading straight for the composite materials area. Soon, rolls of black, neatly arranged material appeared before him. Lorraine touched it and knew immediately that the material was carbon fiber cloth.
Lorraine piled carbon fiber cloth onto a flatbed cart and pushed it back to the loading dock. With Ouyang Nian's help, the materials were quickly loaded onto the cart.
Looking at the materials before them, the two didn't dare waste a moment and quickly drove the truck back to the shore. Along the way, they also saw several zombies standing motionless on the road in broad daylight.
Upon arriving at the dock, before the car had even come to a complete stop, the data panel began to vibrate. Lorraine, looking puzzled, pulled out the data panel—the previously unresponsive "Blank Industrial Component" was now displaying a message:
Production equipment for all categories of goods has been detected.
[Enable component installation program?]
Seeing the notification appear for the first time, Lorraine was completely bewildered: "So it's because Ouyang Nian's forging workshop can only produce so few items?"
Lorraine posed a question to shipboard intelligence: "How to activate blank industrial components?"
[Detection of any type of industrial machine tool is sufficient]
Missing functions can be replenished by consuming raw materials or by supplementing industrial machine tools with the corresponding functions.
[Enable component installer?]
"Pause the component installation program."
Based on all these observations, Lorraine felt that component installation was no trivial matter.
After parking and turning off the engine, Lorraine called Ouyang Nian over, and together they opened the cargo box containing the tactical dogs, where they saw two tactical dogs, one large and one small.
The smaller one is a reconnaissance model, about 25 centimeters tall. Its head and backpack are equipped with various observation devices and a 9mm silenced weapon, while its feet are fitted with four tires.
The battlefield support version is large, about one meter tall. It is equipped with two types of observation and aiming devices and a 9mm submachine gun on its head, and a 7.62 caliber machine gun, a quadruple grenade launcher, and a communication antenna on its back. Its upper limbs have storage baskets that can be opened and closed easily.
Under Ouyang Nian's watchful gaze, Lorraine took out the multi-functional goggles and tablet from the battlefield support storage basket and turned on the tablet.
"Please enter your facial information and confirm your command authority."
Both players entered the frame at the same time.
"Information confirmed, command authority established, please activate tactical dogs."
Lorraine first pressed the start switch for the reconnaissance model.
"Reconnaissance tactical dogs have been activated, codenamed 'Listen'."
The tactical dog codenamed "Listen" came running over, tilted its head back, turned the observation equipment on its head, and then lay down at Lorraine's feet.
After confirming that the tactical dogs would not attack him, Lorraine pressed the activation switch for the battlefield support unit.
"Battlefield support tactical dogs have been activated, codenamed 'Tengu'."
The tactical dog, codenamed "Tengu," stood up amidst the hum of its generator, turned its head, and lay down towards Ouyang Nian.
Hearing the snickers coming from beside him, Lorraine's face darkened instantly, and she chose to ignore them.
Looking at the data displayed on the tablet, confirming that both tactical dogs were at full capacity, he then gave the order:
"Di Ting, go ahead to scout; Tian Gou, be on alert."
