Chapter 84 Chairman Zhang Goes to the Countryside
Chapter 84 Chairman Zhang Goes to the Countryside
The veterinarian was busy there, and Zhang Niu's father, worried about Zhang Niu going into the mountains, hurriedly called the little boy next to him to go to Happy House to check if he was there and to bring him back as soon as possible.
Upon hearing this, the little boy nodded hurriedly, called over a few friends, and ran up the mountain like the wind.
The veterinarian squatted there, staring at the horrific gunshot wounds before him. Every single bullet had hit it. This was the most severe injury he had seen in years, but it was still remarkable that the wild boar had survived.
The hot water had been boiled and placed on the ground, and everyone was waiting for the veterinarian to prepare to perform surgery to remove the steel ball.
The veterinarian took a deep breath and then began to remove the steel ball. This was delicate work, and they had to be careful not to let the wild boar go berserk in pain.
"I've never seen a veterinarian remove a steel ball before, so this is quite an eye-opener."
"Hmm, I wonder which damn guy is so good with a gun. I also heard that a lot of stray dogs that came into the mountains to play were shot down."
"You need to be careful, things have been very chaotic lately."
The conversation outside was clearly a discussion of the matter. They often saw this wild boar; the little kids would often run around playing on it. Seeing this, several of their families who raised sheep decided to take on the extra work of watching over it every day.
A black Audi drove by in the distance, kicking up a trail of dust.
The man on the bus was an elderly man in his fifties. If Lao Wang and the others were there, they would recognize him as Chairman Zhang of the photography company. He was now dressed in casual clothes, lying on the back seat, watching the scenery flash by outside the window.
"Xiao Zhang, slow down, there's no rush." A slightly hoarse voice called out.
Upon hearing this, Xiao Zhang, who was focused on driving in the front seat, said, "I understand, I'll slow down now."
Outside the window, the rapeseed flowers are in full bloom, stretching as far as the eye can see, a vast expanse of bright yellow flowers that seems to merge with the horizon.
"I didn't expect to come out during the flowering season. It seems like I haven't seen flowers for several years." He muttered to himself.
Through the rearview mirror, Xiao Zhang, the assistant, looked at the chairman muttering to himself and his expression. He then recalled the last time the chairman had asked him to investigate a small mountain village. It was just a small mountain village, so why was the chairman so enthusiastic? It was really hard to understand. Did he really need to go to such a far place?
Having spent too much time in the city, it's time for this old body to get some exercise. After giving my instructions, I drove off to a small place called Zhangjia Village.
The scenery along the way was beautiful. It reminded the chairman of his own time as a sent-down youth in the countryside.
The car slowly came to a stop in front of the entrance to Zhangjia Village.
"The president has arrived at this place," Xiao Zhang said softly as he turned around.
I straightened my collar, opened the door, and got out of the car. As soon as I stepped out, I saw the huge camphor tree at the village entrance. At first glance, it looked like it would take several people to encircle its trunk. These days, it's rare to find trees this big in big cities. There was a blue metal plaque nailed to the base of the tree, presumably indicating how long it had lived.
Three little boys emerged from the fork in the road amidst the distant fir trees.
The boy with the buzz cut chewed on a blade of grass and said, "Did we just run here for nothing? There's nobody up there."
Another guy with a bowl cut said, "That blue wolf at the door was really fierce, even fiercer than my dog, Wangwang."
"Your dog, Wangwang, is no match for the blue wolves. My grandpa said there's no dog in the village that can beat them. He even said he'll take the dogs out to breed when they're in heat." He said smugly.
As Chairman Zhang got off the train at the village entrance, he heard the children's noise from afar. When the children ran past him, he asked with a warm smile, "Little children, could you please stop? Is there something you want to ask me?"
When the crew-cut guy and his companion heard someone calling from behind, they quickly stopped. "Uncle, is something the matter?" Seeing the black car next to them, they knew that the car must be from the city.
"Well, Uncle has something to ask you." He waved to them.
"Go to the car and get a bag of unopened sunflower seeds." Xiao Zhang didn't understand what was going on, but he still got into the car.
"Uncle, just ask us what's wrong. We know everything about people from our village."
"Okay, I wanted to ask if there's a place called Happy Cottage around here?" I waited for their reply.
The little boy nodded quickly. "Yes, we just came back from there, but there was no one up there. Are you looking for Brother Niu?" He looked at the uncle in front of him with his small eyes.
"Well, I heard he has a big wild boar, so I came to check it out," Chairman Zhang quickly explained.
"Uncle, are you also going to see wild boars? But you're too late." The man with the bowl cut shook his head.
Chairman Zhang looked at the child shaking his head and said with some suspicion, "What do you mean you're late? Did you sell all the wild boars?"
The man with the bowl cut waved his hand. "No, it's because the wild boar at Brother Niu's house was injured by poachers from the mountains. We're going to call Brother Niu back."
No wonder they said it was late; it turns out the wild boar had been injured. But I have my suspicions. There are poachers in this area too. "Can you take Uncle to his house?"
"Yes, we're about to head back. You all come with us."
The child had just finished speaking when Chairman Zhang handed over the sunflower seeds he was holding. "Thank you for your answer. These are for you to have."
The little boy looked at the uncle in front of him, who wasn't faking it, exchanged glances, and reached out to take the bowl-cut hairstyle.
There were already about a dozen steel balls lying on the ground in Zhang Niu's front yard. The veterinarian's forehead was covered in sweat. This focused work was really tiring. Fortunately, the wild boar on the ground was lying there without moving, otherwise it would have been really difficult to remove it by himself.
Zhang Niu's father and Er Gou watched from the side. Zhang Niu's father would occasionally look outside, hoping his son would come back.
Zhang Niu was still walking out of the mountains along the path. He took out his phone; it was already past eight in the morning. Dew was everywhere, his trouser legs were soaked, and he felt chilly. He yawned and touched his nose. "It's really cold in these mountains. I should have worn more clothes when I came in."
There are hardly any cell towers in these mountains. Zhang Niu's phone has no signal; he wonders if his dad and the others back home will worry, and whether the sow will survive. He needs to speed things up, or he won't be able to get out in the dark.
Chairman Zhang followed the boy through several alleys to a mud house. He stopped in front of the door and said, "Uncle, the person you're looking for is here. Let's go in first." Then he squeezed into the crowd.
Looking at the large crowd gathered in front of him, Chairman Zhang was somewhat surprised. Just then, a villager who was about to go home turned around and saw Chairman Zhang and his companion standing outside.
He took out a cigarette and handed it to the villager. "Fellow villager, can I ask you something?"
The villager politely accepted the cigarette offered by the elderly man, saying, "Go ahead and talk, I happen to have some free time."
Pointing at the group of people in front of him, he said, "What are you all doing? So many people crammed together."
The villagers burst into laughter upon hearing this. "Outsiders, you don't know this! This is the Wang family's veterinarian performing surgery on a wild boar to remove a steel ball. Everyone is watching with great interest."
"Get the steel balls." Chairman Zhang was a little puzzled. Could wild boars also carry steel balls?
"The Zhang family is in trouble. The wild boar on the mountain was poached. It was shot at least five times with a rifle, but it still managed to escape back to the outskirts of the village, and we just brought it back." He gestured with his fingers.
"No way, he's still alive after being shot five times?" Xiao Zhang exclaimed. But Xiao Zhang quickly noticed that the villager's eyes looked a little strange.
Chairman Zhang, being a quick-witted person, hurriedly explained, "I'm sorry, my friend is young and may have misspoke. Please don't mind."
The villagers' expressions softened upon hearing this. "Don't talk nonsense if you don't know. This wild boar has been around for a year, and no wild boars have come out to cause trouble outside our village. It's also found on the nearby hills. Everyone takes good care of it."
Chairman Zhang knew that wild boars often came down from the mountains and destroyed crops like sweet potatoes, which explained the villagers' reaction. "Was the wild boar badly injured?"
Only then did Xiao Zhang realize that wild boars could do this.
"They were shot pretty hard, taking a few bullets from the local authorities. But since they managed to escape, they shouldn't have died so easily. You can go in and check on them, just don't say anything out of line." The villager reminded them before leaving, seeing that the two seemed to be doing well.
After the villagers left, Chairman Zhang said softly to Xiao Zhang, "Xiao Zhang, you have to be careful how you speak in the mountain village, it's not like in the city. These villagers can be very fierce if they get angry."
Xiao Zhang nodded. "Understood."
Chairman Zhang was very satisfied with Xiao Zhang's attitude, otherwise he wouldn't have brought him down. "Come on, let's go in and take a look."
Seeing the little boy come in, Zhang Niu's father quickly led them aside, asking, "Did you see Brother Niu when you went upstairs?"
The little boy shook his head. "No, we encountered a blue wolf at the gate and couldn't get in, so we called outside for a long time but no one came out. We even went to check over the duck shed."
This kid ran off into the mountains and didn't even come back. Doesn't he know his family is worried? Those poachers are not easy to deal with.
After the veterinarian removed the steel balls from the five bullet holes, the ground was littered with gleaming steel balls. These bullets were incredibly powerful, hitting the bone with every shot.
"There are so many steel balls, damn it," Er Gou cursed from the side.
Last year, with that wild boar, King Kong, around, no more wild boars were seen coming down from the nearby mountains to cause trouble, and the villagers all knew it was a good thing. After all, no one bothered to guard the sweet potatoes and other crops on the mountain anymore, and now every time they went up, the crops were perfectly fine. Everyone said that the nearby mountains had become the wild boar's territory.
Er Gou patted Zhang Niu's father on the shoulder, "Don't worry, this veterinarian is skilled, he should be able to cure him. Zhang Wa should be back soon too."
"Thanks, if you hadn't gone to the field, no one would have known about this wild boar." He gave a wry smile.
Er Gou chuckled upon hearing this, "I guess this is what you call fate. When I came back, I thought about it, and my land is just past Happy House. I guess this wild boar was trying to run back but got too tired halfway and collapsed there."
Hearing Er Gou's explanation, Zhang Niu's father felt much better, but he was still worried. He remembered the first time he saw this wild boar, and almost a year had passed without him realizing it. He sighed.
Chairman Zhang and Xiao Zhang successfully squeezed through the crowd to the front. They immediately spotted the large wild boar lying on the wooden plank, covered in blood.
Seeing the veterinarian bent over treating the patient, Chairman Zhang realized how many people were watching. Then, noticing the anxious expression on the other side, he quickly guessed that this must be the owner of the place.
Chairman Zhang still intends to take a look at this unusual case of a veterinarian performing surgery to remove a steel ball.
This is the first update today, please give me some recommendation votes!
