Chapter 50: Where the Drops Belong
Chapter 50: Where the Drops Belong
The convoy was briefly thrown into chaos by the sudden cold, but the chaos did not last long.
Their mentality had been forged long ago during their long escape.
"It's a pity there are no snow tires; driving on this kind of road will probably be quite difficult."
Although the two layers of clothing made Xu Si a little more comfortable, they were far from warm.
If he stays in this environment for a long time, his condition will not be much better than others.
It would be a joke if a Sequence Extraordinary being froze to death.
"Brother Dao, here you go!"
Little Luo ran over, wrapped in a fine blanket. Her face was red from the cold, and there was a runny nose. In her hand, however, she was holding a pair of very ordinary cotton gloves.
"Thanks, what about yours? Do you have any to wear?" Xu Si asked.
"Brother Fu has the heater on in his car! It's not cold!"
Xu Si rolled his eyes. His car also had a heater, but the heat was nothing compared to those big trucks.
No wonder no one came out; they were all warming up in their cars. They just filled up the tank and are really going all out, aren't they?
To be honest, Xu Si wasn't envious at all; he had lost some of his warmth.
"Brother Dao, I'm going back to the car, it's too cold outside!"
Xu Si rubbed his hands together, and the white breath he exhaled quickly dissipated in the cold wind.
He opened the car door and sat back in the driver's seat, the cold seat sending a chill down his spine.
My fingers stiffly turned the key, the engine made a dull starting sound, and hot air whistled through the air, which was better than nothing.
The energy from the blood sun that the star anchor connected to did not bring him much warmth.
He patted the steering wheel helplessly, gazing out the window at the snow-covered world.
"Attention everyone, keep a safe distance while driving on the snow, and slow down. We don't know how far we are from the next supply point, so be careful to conserve fuel," Fu Xiaojian's voice came through the walkie-talkie.
The convoy moved slowly across the snow, the tires crunching and squeaking as they rolled over the snow.
Xu Si gripped the steering wheel tightly, feeling the vehicle slightly slipping on the wet, snowy ground.
He had to concentrate all his energy, passively activating the Star Trail feature, and anticipating every possible curve where he might slip.
Fortunately, the vehicle performed well.
He felt that his proficiency with star trails was gradually increasing under this training, which was a way of finding joy even in hardship.
"Brother Dao, are you alright?" Xiao Luo's voice came through the walkie-talkie, filled with concern.
"Not bad, he's not dead yet," Xu Si replied.
"Brother Dao, it's so warm in our car!" The little girl's boastful voice rang out, but Xu Si didn't want to talk to her right now.
The convoy struggled across the snow-covered plains. Xu Si gripped the steering wheel tightly, his fingertips slightly numb from the cold.
He looked out the car window at the world covered in silver, the sunlight reflecting off the snow, the whole world shrouded in an eerie crimson.
"Driving in the snow is more difficult than I imagined," Xu Si muttered to himself, feeling the tires rubbing against the snow with each stroke.
He had to keep "Star Track" running continuously, and the constant predictions took a heavy toll on his energy.
It's actually not too bad now, the hardest part is at night. He's thinking about how to get through the night.
Sleeping in this kind of weather, in the freezing cold, would really freeze you to death.
As the blood-red sun set, Xu Si couldn't help but feel anxious. He couldn't possibly squeeze in with Jiao Jiao and the others to keep warm!
He's willing, but Jiao Jiao and the others aren't!
Xu Si was already starting to worry that the convoy might not be able to find a suitable campsite tonight.
If they can't find it, the convoy can't keep the cars running all night with the hot air blowing on them!
How much gasoline would that consume?
The convoy struggled across the snow-covered plains for another hour or so, and the sky visibly darkened.
As the blood-red sun sank below the horizon, it dyed the snow-covered ground a poignant crimson, creating an eerie beauty. The temperature plummeted, and a howling wind began to whistle, whipping up snowflakes that lashed against the car windows with a rustling sound.
Fu Xiaojian's grave voice came through the walkie-talkie: "It's getting dark, and the temperature is dropping too fast. We can't go any further. We have to find a place to spend the night, or we'll freeze to death."
"This godforsaken place is in the middle of nowhere, where are we going to find a place to spend the night?" Tashan replied in a muffled voice. His bus had the most people on it, and without heating, everyone on the bus would die in the snowstorm, so he was the most anxious.
The longer the hot air takes to circulate, the more gasoline is consumed. Although they have a lot in reserve, they cannot withstand such consumption.
"There seems to be a hill to the left!" Su Su's cool voice suddenly came from the walkie-talkie.
"Let's leave it there! At least it can block the wind!" Fu Xiaojian made a quick decision.
This snowfield is completely bare, without a single tree. If it continued like this, even an average person's eyes would not be able to take it.
The convoy slowly veered off the main road and headed towards the hill.
The snow was very deep, making it extremely difficult for vehicles to move. The tires spun freely from time to time, kicking up large amounts of snow and mud.
Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that it was indeed a small hill with hard rocks. Tashan transformed into a demolition expert, carving out a tunnel several meters deep from the hill. The bus stopped at the entrance of the tunnel to block the ever-present, raging cold winds from the snowfield.
Xu Si parked his car but still had things to do; he needed to take this opportunity to upgrade his car.
However, before that, he needed to negotiate the share of the [Heart of Molten Wax Behemoth] with a few people.
In the past, he might have simply kept it, but the passive effect of the [Sword of Punishment] constantly reminded him.
Xu Si rubbed his hands, which were numb from the cold, walked to the Mengshi vehicle, and knocked on the window.
Fu Xiaojian lowered the car window, and a wave of warmth rushed in, making Xu Si shiver involuntarily—it was cold.
"Brother Dao" Xiao Luo grinned when he saw Xu Si.
"Old Fu, we need to have a serious talk about the profits from the gas station," Xu Si said bluntly.
"Harvest? What harvest? No need to divide the gasoline, whoever fills it up keeps it!" Fu Xiaojian was too far from the battle area to know that something strange had fallen.
"The situation was urgent at the time. Xiao Luo, Tashan, Su Su, and I all contributed our efforts to kill that monster. According to the rules, everyone gets a share of the loot." Xu Si took out the [Heart of Molten Wax Behemoth].
"It dropped?" Fu Xiaojian's eyes lit up immediately. Doesn't that mean...?
He then looked at Xu Si, who nodded. Now it was time to see what price Fu Xiaojian would pay.
He still has enough purification points, so he can still make one more rare item.
"You come in first, I'll call Su Su and Ta Shan." Upon receiving Xu Si's reply, Fu Xiaojian's eyes lit up even more.
Xu Si opened the car door and climbed into the Warrior. The warm air instantly enveloped him, making him almost groan with pleasure.
Xiao Luo obediently moved aside to make room for him.
After a while, Xu Si found that only Fu Xiaojian had returned, and he was completely confused.
"Su Su said she wasn't much help, so her share is yours. Ta Shan's attitude is the same. As for Xiao Luo?"
"Brother Dao, I don't want any either. You can have them all if you want," Xiao Luo said innocently.
Fu Xiaojian rolled his eyes. Once he reaches Sequence 4 and has combat power, he won't need to be so humble anymore.
Being a team leader is really tough.
