Gao Kui was reading Chu Zihang's notes, and asked a question casually without looking up.
"And you?" Chu Zihang regretted his words as soon as he opened his mouth.
"I'll wait for the rain to stop."
"I want to watch the rain for a while." This is the truth, at least in part.
Similar times and similar places always evoke memories for Chu Zihang, reminding him of the man who stayed on the overpass four years ago and never appeared again.
He really wanted to see the rain.
In addition, Chu Zihang was thinking that if the rain didn't stop anytime soon, he would call his "father" and ask him to send a car to pick him up and take Gao Kui home "by the way".
Even though Gao Kui couldn't help him, he couldn't bear to let his helpless classmate Gao Kui go home in the heavy rain.
He is truly a very gentle person.
The empty classroom quickly fell silent. Gao Kui sat at his desk looking at his notes, while Chu Zihang stood by the window watching the rain, reminiscing about that man. Only the pattering of rain against the glass remained.
Just like in class, Gao Kui was really trying his best to concentrate on reading the notes Chu Zihang had given him.
But her thoughts still wandered uncontrollably, drifting to other places, eventually landing on Chu Zihang, who was standing by the window watching the rain.
The scene at Shilan Middle School in the heavy rain—empty classrooms, a lonely boy standing by the window watching the rain and waiting for someone—always gave Gao Kui a familiar feeling.
After some thought and recollection, Gao Kui actually remembered some fragments and plots from "Dragon Raja".
Was the novel "Dragon Raja" truly a novel from my past life? Or was it a fantasy pieced together haphazardly by me during a mental breakdown, using elements from the people and environment around me?
Gao Kui no longer cared; many of his "real memories" were distorted. He only knew that he had indeed remembered some things.
Chu Zihang in the book seems to be from a blended family. It was on a rainy day like this that his biological father picked him up from school.
Same heavy rain, same scene, the only difference is that I'm here too. It must be today.
His biological father seemed to be a somewhat poor but very talkative driver who apparently had run over and killed many "people" without any remorse.
Gao Kui thought that Chu Zihang's biological father was very likely a semi-trailer truck driver. Logically speaking, only a semi-trailer truck driver could be so unafraid of psychological burden after causing a fatal accident.
After all, the insurance payout is high enough.
Whether it was around 08 in my previous life or in the present day of this world, some truck drivers who drive on national and provincial highways do indeed have a very wild driving style.
Moreover, many of them illegally modified their vehicles and were severely overloaded.
Go talk to my insurance company!
The more Gao Kui thought about it, the more reasonable it seemed. He concluded that Chu Zihang's biological father must have been a truck driver.
Thinking of this, Gao Kui suddenly asked, "Bro, was your biological father a truck driver?"
how do you know?
Chu Zihang turned around abruptly, his eyes showing the same surprise as Gao Kui, whom he had questioned earlier.
After a slight pause, Chu Zihang stopped worrying about how Gao Kui knew or why he asked the question. He knew that many of Gao Kui's memories were fragmented.
There's a high chance you won't get a clear answer even if you ask.
"He was indeed a truck driver."
A Maybach that is over six meters long would require a yellow license plate under current traffic regulations, and the number of passengers it can carry must be marked on the paint. Compared to ordinary cars, it is a truly large vehicle.
Gao Kui nodded. Whether it was a real plot from the book or his own confused memories and wild thoughts, there was no doubt that Chu Zihang's biological father was a truck driver.
After a brief exchange, both fell silent again. Chu Zihang continued watching the rain, while Gao Kui continued reading his notes.
Just like before, Gao Kui's attention quickly drifted elsewhere: two red-headed flies that had landed on his desk and were rubbing their hands together and "whispering" to each other.
One fly landed on top of the other, its wings fluttering rapidly and buzzing. The two flies overlapped and rubbed together, seemingly mating or copulating.
Accompanied by the buzzing of flies' wings and the sound of rain hitting the window, Gao Kui's thoughts drifted from the flies to another dimension, where another fantasy emerged in his mind.
In the cramped, old bungalow, young boys and girls, just beginning to experience romantic feelings, lay side by side on a single bed, looking at a laptop, discussing and exploring how to use this novel gadget that was still a mystery to them.
At one point, they turned to look at each other simultaneously, and time seemed to stand still.
The boy saw the girl's face in his eyes, and the girl saw her own reflection in the boy's pupils.
The ambiguous atmosphere rapidly intensified in the cramped space, the air became thick, and blushes appeared on her cheeks, feelings began to blossom, and her heart fluttered.
They suddenly decided to watch something unhealthy.
A teenager who had only recently started using computers and knew nothing about the internet was searching for educational videos on his MacBook, while a girl sat cross-legged beside him, pointing and gesturing.
The boy frantically searched for a long time, but in the end he only found a short video of flies mating, which the girl laughed at him for a long time.
That's so lame. At least find a video of mammals mating, right?
The room where the boy and girl lived together seemed to be a rented bungalow.
The single bed where the boy and girl lay side by side looked like their own bed.
The computer the boy was holding looked like his own laptop, which he had acquired at some point.
Who is the boy?
The boy was himself, his figure and appearance were exactly the same as they were two years ago.
Who is the girl?
He couldn't remember. Gao Kui couldn't imagine the girl's height, figure, clothing, or appearance at all. He racked his brains but couldn't think of any words that could be used to describe her.
Gao Kui desperately tried to find everything related to the girl in this fantasy—her appearance, her figure, her eyes—even if he could only imagine a little bit of it.
But there was nothing, nothing at all, only the buzzing of flies around my ears, growing louder and noisier.
Ten...
One hundred...
One thousand...
Ten thousand...
One million...
"Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah!!!!!"
Gao Kui's face was contorted with rage as he covered his ears with his hands and let out a heart-wrenching howl. Honey-gold flames burned fiercely in his deep brown pupils.
He suddenly sprang to his feet and kicked the desk in front of him, which was covered with two red-headed flies, to pieces.
"Oh!"
Study notes, books from the desk, and fragments of the desk were scattered everywhere. Chu Zihang, who was standing by the window watching the rain and reminiscing about that man, was startled and turned around to carefully observe the wailing Gao Kui, staring at those golden eyes.
I was just chatting and laughing with him, and I seemed more like a normal person than him. How could he suddenly have an attack?
Chapter 4 Emmanuel
"Ah ah ah ah ah!!!!"
"Ah ah ah ah ah!!!!"
Like the most devout believer in the world kneeling before the merciful Lord, Gao Kui knelt on the ground with his hands covering his head, his face contorted in agony as he roared. The intense auditory hallucinations he hadn't experienced in a long time were driving him almost insane.
It feels like you've stayed up for two nights straight, 60 hours straight, and your brain is finally going to drift off to sleep when all your neighbors upstairs, downstairs, around, and to the sides are renovating at the same time.
The sounds of chainsaws, hammering, nailing, and construction workers shouting fill your ears with a cacophony of noises.
Chu Zihang huddled by the window, helplessly watching Gao Kui's eyes blazing with fire as he wailed in pain. Of course, he wanted to help Gao Kui, even if it was just to alleviate his pain a little.
However, Chu Zihang had no idea how to comfort a mentally ill patient who was having an episode, and he was afraid that he would do something wrong with his good intentions.
Fortunately, the screams and howls probably did relieve the mental depression and pain to some extent, and the auditory hallucinations and tinnitus that haunted Gao Kui's ears gradually subsided on their own.
It's roughly like going from a million flies to a thousand flies, and the number of neighbors renovating went from seven or eight to one.
The wailing gradually subsided, leaving only the violent panting. This level of tinnitus and auditory hallucinations was well within Gao Kui's tolerance range.
“I have told my believers, ‘Be sober-minded and avoid all forms of greed, for a person’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.’”
They regard my words as the ultimate truth and believe in me as they believe in my Father.
I never imagined that two thousand years later, I would be the one who became greedy.
The familiar voice, though not particularly loud, drowned out all the auditory hallucinations and tinnitus, its tone filled with pity for their misfortune and anger at their lack of resistance.
Gao Kui, panting, raised his head, his eyes blazing with golden fire, and coldly looked in the direction from which the sound came.
Good news! The auditory hallucinations and tinnitus have been greatly relieved.
Bad news, I'm starting to hallucinate.
A young man, whose appearance and clothing were exactly the same as Gao Kui's, but whose temperament was different, sat not far in front of him, his eyebrows lowered and his eyes filled with sorrow.
Again.
Gao Kui had met the other person more than once. Sometimes he would just say a few words to him, and sometimes he would take him to that incredible place and let him see many sights.
Who is he?
He is the Messiah, His Son, the Holy Son who came to earth, the Word made flesh of God, and the Immanuel who is said to be "the Virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call his name Immanuel".
When Gao Kui first experienced a bout of grandiose delusions, he believed that he was that person—Jesus.
Calm down, calm down, this is just a hallucination!
The Messiah and Emmanuel are all fake, all hallucinations. They can't fool me. My grandiose delusions have been cured!
Gao Kui glanced at Emmanuel, then quickly lowered his head, ignoring Emmanuel as he had done many times before.
Why would I bother with an illusion born from fantasy?
Emmanuel straddled the chair with his elbows on the back and continued to lament Gao Kui's misfortune.
"You should not take chances and covet the wealth that is destined to be yours, or that is destined not to be yours."
You know perfectly well that your schizophrenia is not cured, but for the sake of those vague memories of your past life, you still find an excuse to stop taking your medication.
Aren't those songs good enough?
Are those few songs not enough to make you well-fed and clothed? My grace is always enough for us.
If you hadn't been greedy yesterday and had taken your medication as prescribed, you wouldn't be in so much pain now.
